Re: Lap Times from the 'Ring

Does anybody know the lap time for the F430?

Re: Lap Times from the 'Ring

Sorry to say, I couldnt find one. I am sure that one of the German auto magazines will do a test soon.

Re: Lap Times from the 'Ring

thanks for the awesome list jim!!

Re: Lap Times from the 'Ring

Lap time on Italian track in Vairano(PV)( from 4R Italian magazine):

    Carrera GT 1' 17" 349
    Ferrari Enzo 1' 17" 448
    Murciélago 1' 19" 840

I have also the time of 430 in the same track, but now I'm not at my home, perhaps tomorrow I'm loking for it and then I will post.

Re: Lap Times from the 'Ring

So much for the "improvements" made to the M6 to justify its much higher price over the M5 (carbon fiber roof, less weight, lower suspension, etc...)

Re: Lap Times from the 'Ring

I believe the Matheny Porsche had a much better time. A lot of your times seem accurate, but a more complete and regularly updated list is here:
Supercars Times List [updated upon confirmed times]

Re: Lap Times from the 'Ring

Interesting also that the 996 3.6L with Horst V. Saurma driving is only two seconds slower than a 997 driven by Walter Rohl. Maybe the 996 would've even been faster than 997 if driven by WR...

Re: Lap Times from the 'Ring

Does anybody know the lap times of any LeMans cars on the N'ring?

Re: Lap Times from the 'Ring

The last ones to run in the 20km north loop of ring before it was closed and passed over to the new short ring GP track was in 1983, were the Group C Porsche 956 of Stephan Bellof did a 6:11

Re: Lap Times from the 'Ring

    Phil Bennett 7:19 in a road-legal Radical in 2003

    And, supposedly a privately-run Donkervoort, weighing 650kg and having a 400bhp turbocharged Audi V6, achieved a 7:18 lap in less-than-ideal conditions in 2004.

6:11??? Jesus christ! what did he have? A 956 (helicopter)?

Re: Lap Times from the 'Ring

Fastest lap "ever" recorded in the ring

Re: Lap Times from the 'Ring

Carlos, how long do you think id take an F1 car to lap the ring?

Re: Lap Times from the 'Ring

That would be really hard to say because a modern Formula One car would be really hard to nearly imposible to set up for the ring since its such a long changing track with a surface thats to bumpy and rough for a F1 car and too many varying condition for one particular setup. So they would perform much worse at the ring than on a normal GP track were we have a reference of their performance.
The north loop of the ring was actually closed for GP racing when Nicky Lauda had a terrible accident in his F1 car in 1976, after that they stared building the GP section were the Nurburgring GP is now held. BUt the fastest F1 lap I know of is Nicky Lauda's 1975 lap in his F1 of 6:58, though the track was 2km longer back then (in 1983 the track was remodeled for the new track).

Re: Lap Times from the 'Ring

    Would around 5:30 be realistic?

Bellof did it on the short Ring. 20.835 metres as opposed to the 22.830 meters of the "long ring" today.
So 2km shorter. Thats why they dont use it very much as reference today.
The difference is the long straight on the finish/start area.

Re: Lap Times from the 'Ring

    I don't know, I wouldn't dare to even guess

Re: Lap Times from the 'Ring

    Thats some intresting factoids.

No, the 20,8Km is the actual legth of the ring. The 22km track was the old version predating 1983. And while Bellof's lap was not exactly the same course as the current 20,8Km tract becuase of the work going on the new track at the same time as the GP in which practice session he did the 6:11 (they changed a bit of the course due to the repairs/work), it was still the same overall legth as the actual 20,8Km. Thats why some don't regard it as fair refernce, becuase the course was changed slightly during that year, but the legth was still the same.

Re: Lap Times from the 'Ring

Agree with your point on F1 cars...I think a better car to crack the all time record would be an Audi R8 running without restrictors.

Re: Lap Times from the 'Ring

One more time needs to be added to that list - 10.08 for a diesel powered Ford Transit Van!

During the last series of Top Gear, Clarkson raced round the ring in a diesel S Type Jaguar, and was over the moon to make it in just under 10 minutes. But his professional female instructor wasn't impressed, saying she could beat that time "in a van". So they put it to the test last weekend.

Very amusing watching the Transit van, driven by a girl, fly round, taking a few Porsches and bikes, but sadly she just missed the 10min mark - but not bad for something that does 0-60mph in something like 20secs...

Re: Lap Times from the 'Ring

It will be very hard to break the all time record set by the Porsche 956. The R8 is a great race car but it doesn't have full ground effects like the Group C cars. That is what is needed to keep the car glued to the track. I do remember a Ring site that stated a year back when Ferrari was doing a photo op there that Schumie tried to break the record. It was in his current F1 car and he got to within a couple seconds of the record. I was never able to find this story again on the site. Maybe it was bull. In any event it would take a SUPER race car to even come close to Porsche.

The anonymous lady is named Sabine Schmidt. She really had that Transit moving!

Now, if it had been on Pirelli Corsas ............

Thank you for posting the "Ring" lap times.

Yes, that's legendary - reminds me of my first lap as a young student with zero NS-experience in a 34 HP Renault R4 with two buddies as passengers - LoL I think it has been something like 16 minutes. Was more like a merry go round with ever squeaking tyres and a body rolling like the back of a camel The only special suspension set-up was my rather fat bud on the rear bench throwing his body into the curves' outer side in order to stabilize the car

Agree with Carlos on his comment regarding modern F1 cars - it would be impossible to find a reasonable set up for the old NS.

Re: Lap Times from the 'Ring

In the latest issue of SA:
    CCR - 7:34
    Opel Astra OPC - 8:35,93 (driver:Manuel Reuter)

Re: Lap Times from the 'Ring

That Astra OPC time is way too optimistic but, GM did that before...

Re: Lap Times from the 'Ring

    No problem HHG.

    Emjoy your new Cayman!
