    Re: 991.2 GT3 Thread Closed

The sequential gearbox has been one of the most expensive parts of running a Cup recreationally (since the 997.1).  It's nice that they finally increased the interval.  996 Cup was the last one with Manual and it is much cheaper to maintain, due to that.

So even a human pumped up on adrenaline apparently shifts more sympathetically through a gate than the (faster) sequential shift allows him to, apart from the fact that the sequential shift itself probably costs more to maintain and repair. Do you happen to know if the Hollinger sequential shift system is still being used?

I'm actually very excited for this motor - I think it's going to be an excellent match for the 911R's gearbox!

...and match made in heaven with updated PDK-S.

Actual difference in performance will be pretty big between manual and PDK-S. Even Porsche did not anticipate it. Straight line acceleration, Ring or Hockenheim Klein Kurs PDK-S is faster. Clearly faster.

Only that word "involvement" or true addiciton to manual gear changing with clutch and stick are argument to get manual.

    Remark-this is my subjective opinion.

    KresoF1:

...and match made in heaven with updated PDK-S.

Absolutely, the pdk version would be the better performer with 7 gears and instantaneous shifting.  But if the new motor has a lower redline and more mid-range torque than the RS, it could be slightly less engaging with PDK for former 991.1 GT3 owners used to the 9k redline.  But for manual users, there has never been an NA 911 engine better suited to a 6 speed manual.

With the 911R, the car goes about 200mph at close to 8,250 rpm (its power peak).  If the new GT retains the identical gearing, the car will be geared too low to achieve its maximum theoretical Vmax (peak power at only 7,500 rpm), but will be stunning for acceleration and track performance (compared to other manual GT3's, including better performing than the 997 RS 4.0).  PDK, still faster though (but maybe less fascinating than pdk GT3 before).  I hope they don't consider adding a taller final drive gear for higher Vmax and better fuel consumption.

For purposes of straight-line performance, imaging a GT4 with over 100 hp more, 1,100 rpm higher redline, 15% (45 ft-lbs) more torque, and much lower gears.  All of these 4 things spell excitement to me!

    Re: 991.2 GT3 Thread Closed

Grant. I hope you are right. But the Cup/GT3R engine specs never are the same as the road car on which they are based as there are many other considerations for the road car including fuel economy, sound regs and emmission as you know. I think it would be very unlikely the road car will have peak power at 7500 like the race car. I think for the race car this has been done to ensure engine lonegivity. Its tuned for the race track not for emotion and automotive journalists.

Again I hope Im wrong but I think we will see something close to the 911R in terms of a match, but thats no bad thing either.

You can buy the Cup brake calipers from Performance Friction (low profile) to allow that.
