    Re: Cayman article in Excellence

Thanks for that. I enjoyed every word of it. Keep those Cayman articles coming folks!

    Re: Cayman article in Excellence

That was a very revealing article!

Cayman twice as stiff as the Boxster with 129lbs less weight
    No Cayman RS
    No Cayman racer
Cayman will always be tuned to stay below 911 performance

Porsche product marketing strategy skewed to competing within themselves (!)

The authors insight on shorter track vs long track performance was very clever.

I think the Caymans handling advantage really comes from the extra hp and its torque effect on the chassis. The 987 chassis is way under utilized powerwise, the stiffer Cayman
chassis is even more suited to more HP.

Maybe a standard Cayman with PCCB and a Carrera S X51 transplant would be the ideal casual track weapon

    Re: Cayman article in Excellence

    no cayman RS
    no cayman racer.

    no money from my pocket.

I see a cayman like this clubsport seats rear rs wing and 320 or more hp and no more than 1250 a 1300kg.

    than i grab my wallet.

The article doesn't say no Cayman RS does it? As I recall it, it says there will be no GT series for the Cayman, like a GT2, GT3 etc. That doesn't mean there is no RS though.

    Re: Cayman article in Excellence

The 986 came out in 97 and there were "no immediate plans for an S version", true enough it didn't come until 2000 after 3 model years of base 986 sales. Why would Porsche (or anybody else in the business) cannabilize its own sales on a model it has just introduced based on the availability of a "future" model? It seems to me Porsche has positioned the car very carefully based on its public image as a manufacturer of high end sports cars, and the realization that Porsche 911 owners (past, present, and future) want that model's status to remain right where it is, on top. Porsche management has taken great pains to calm those waters. So far what I've seen and read looks promising. When I see the car in the steel an drive it I'll know if it's what I'm looking for. If not......

Well said.....and pretty much what I have thought all along.

There will be more models of the Cayman.....but at a slow pace.
