    Panamera details (Porsche's upcoming sedan)

german news site www.spiegel.de reports some detailled rumours about the (probably) upcoming panamera.

    - panamera concept drawings have been presented to 100+ customers from the US and germany (they had to sign non disclosure agreements) in order to check the prospects of success.

    - it's no sport estate, but a "coupé", looking quite similar to the 911 -- but with 4 doors and a lot bigger

    - porsche is going to develop the car alone (VW backed out)

    - the car body will be manufactured by component supplier magna-steyr in graz, austria. final assembly will take place in leipzig.

    - offered engines: cayenne's V8 and CGT's V10

    - car will share 40% of parts with 911/cayenne

    - target 25,000 units/yr

    - priced around 70,000 - 100,000 EUR

    - final decision either on july 27th's board meeting or in september.

Re: Panamera details (Porsche's upcoming sedan)

Sounds good so far. Great engine choices!!! Just what i said a year ago. Hope it turns out to be true.

Re: Panamera details (Porsche's upcoming sedan)

    Great find zz!

    Thanks!

The story is now being repeated elsewhere. Here's a truncated version at Forbes(web page).

I think this is good news. I'm glad to see VW out of the picture. I don't know what to think about the Magna-Steyr decision. I know they are making the BMW X-3, and other vehicles, but I don't know much about the quality of the construction.

I would have thought they might have gone with ThyssenKrupp since they make the Cayenne/Touareg bodies and also had that association with Valmet. I do understand the Valmet deal is off now though and Valmet has bought back ThyssenKrupp's interest.

And what about Valmet? Why not use them? The're already making Boxsters. What's so great about Magna-Steyr?

Re: Panamera details (Porsche's upcoming sedan)

GM austin - to put your mind at rest - my family have an X3 and the fit and finish of the exterior is very good, although the quality of the interior trim and plastics is poor (this is probably a BMW cost cutting decision). To put this into context, i also have a bmw 330ci - the interior quality of which is exceptional it cost Pounds10k less than the X3 and manages to feel like it cost double (especially where the plastics are concerned!).

I think we announced the 4-door sports limousine (I think Coupe is not quite the right description but anyway, Mercedes calls the CLS a 4-door coupe too ) more than a year ago and many people didn't believe us.
As far as I know, the decision has already been taken but there is of course the need of an official announcement.
I'm also not sure if I mentioned that we heard the rumor that the Panamera gets a 4WD, at least the V8, V8 Turbo and the V10 version.
As far as we heard, there will be three versions, a V8 with around 360 HP, a V8 Turbo with around 480-520 HP and a V10 with 600 HP flat.

Top Speed on the V8 is estimated in the 300 kph range, V8 Turbo hits 320 and the V10 is rumored to become the fastest 4-door sedan (coupe? ) in the world, reaching a top speed of around 340 kph.
    Again: just rumors.

Re: Panamera details (Porsche's upcoming sedan)

    RC,
ist the V10 too complex and really not possessive of the right engine characteristics (big torque!)...? I would guess they wont use the V10, and why should they, the V8 is better imo. for this purpose.

I think it's been longer than that. I just did a search and found threads back to Sept. 2003.

Eh, BMW put a complex, high revving v10 in the m5, Porsche can do it too.

I really hope this car doesn't look like a 911, but I guess it's too late. I liked that with the 914, 944, 968, 928, etc porsche didn't try to attach a 911 look. I think even the cayenne looks too 911ish. They can work to make the car look like a Porsche without this meaning 911.

The V10 has 435 ft lbs. That's the same as a 612 Scaglietti. Torque is not an issue. However, using a V10 would naturally ascend it to flagship status. I don't think Porsche is ready to upset the applecart.

Re: Panamera details (Porsche's upcoming sedan)

If the V10 600bhp flat engine has the same engine sound as the actual carrera gt.......man!!!!! may be its time to change from the 911 line to the panamera

Just imagine the sound a sedan would make with the v10. I'd like to hear that. Now imagine you're at a red light sitting side by side with a mercedes S-class or cls...the merc's driver's gonna be quite surprised....

    Great news Thanks

Re: Panamera details (Porsche's upcoming sedan)

For a number of reasons the V10 would probably sound a little different in the panamera than in the CGT. It would sit higher and would not need those small lightweight flywheels. Using a different flywheel (heavier and larger) would alter revviness and sound, BUT most importantly the launch.

A sedan, even the fastest and coolest in the world, would still have to be driveable by the little housewife toting the kids around. Can't have her laying a patch from every stop sign or jerking juniors head back and forth!

This sounds like the best possible scenario, no vw copy, super engines, plus the extra's RC mentions. Phenomenal! And I wouldn't worry too much about 911 styling.

Re: Panamera details (Porsche's upcoming sedan)

would be interesting to see what the outcome would be, so i guess it's definately happening and speculation is out the window

Re: Panamera details (Porsche's upcoming sedan)

panamera is beginning to sound VERY ENTICING...

Re: Panamera details (Porsche's upcoming sedan)

i know my dad is quite interested in this car... i think it is a much better idea than the cayanne

Re: Panamera details (Porsche's upcoming sedan)

I still hope for a sports estate. A 4-door coupé/sedan would attract wrong buyers and dilute the brands status imo.

i wonder what the big difference is between a sedan and an estate in terms of image?

it's original brand status -- to build sporty, compact, light and efficient cars -- is already diluted if not completely wiped out anyway.

porsche is a luxury car brand with a sporty heritage.

Re: Panamera details (Porsche's upcoming sedan)

maybe if the 4th model is succesful and say its gonna be an sports estate, porsche might also introduce a sedan CLS like car based on the 4th model... you know like most other car manufacturers do

Re: Panamera details (Porsche's upcoming sedan)

I happen to like the idea of Porsche coming out with a model where you can actually sit 4 people. Granted, it will start to become a sedan line, rather than a sports line... but, I happen to know that many times when driving my 911 I have wished I could seat more people.

I'd love to have a hot sedan with an awesome design, incredible power, and a 4 seater sitting next to my C4S in my garage...

What a pretty picture that would be

    Panamera Picture

Found this pic on the net of the Panamera:

What you all think? I think I'd love to see that sitting next to my 911 in my garage when I needed a 4 seater car...
