Finally picked up my wife's Boxster S in Zuffenhausen
Unfortunately the dealer and/or Porsche messed up my order and the red stitching was missing, even on the thicker steering wheel.
I get a retrofit after the factory shutdown but you can imagine how p.ss.d I was.
Otherwise, I'm pleasantly surprised about the build quality, the reaction of the auto tranny and the handling performance of this car.
Can't feel much difference regarding throttle response when sport chrono is activated but it definetely changes the shifting behaviour of the auto tranny to a more aggressive setting, very nice when driving hard but sometimes the tranny upshifts very very late.
Handling is great, especially when PASM is set to sport mode. The ride gets a little bit too stiff and bumpy but with this setting, cornering is a lot of fun and I'd even say that it is a bit easier than with my 997 Carrera S. However: when the tires (Michelin Pilot Sport...superb setup for the Boxster S...very sporty and sticky) loose traction, it happens very sudden and you need a lot of experience to put the car back on the track. My 997 Carrera S just slides with the rear but the reaction is easier to anticipate. Anyway: I'm not surprised to hear that in a slalom handling test, the Boxster S with PASM was slightly faster than the Ferrari Enzo.
What I also like very much is acceleration from standstill: you just have to fully press the throttle pedal and there you go, no traction problem, no PSM lamp lighting up, no squeaking tires, no lag, nothing. Just press the throttle from standstill and the Boxster S jumps to 30 kph in no time, accelerating further without any delay. After the annoying performance of my Cayenne Turbo and the traction problems on my wife's former SLK 32 AMG, the Boxster S' auto tranny is really a nice surprise and highly recommended.
A kind of surprise is my disappointment with the BOSE system: when driving topless, I can hardly hear the music, I have to turn the speakers to a very loud setting which isn't very comfortable anymore. I can't help it but I think the BOSE needs some re-adjustment for the Boxster, it works fine in my 997 Carrera S with both side windows and the sunroof open.
Enough bla bla, here are some pictures, enjoy.
