congrats andrew! damn you posted a lot of pictures!! which is a sign on how much you are enjoying that car! btw i see they fixed up your dad's porsche real good, can't even see that it was in an accident

Re: Yay! Look what now keeps the 997s company in the garage.

    Cool, enjoy it!!! Drive safe

Re: Yay! Look what now keeps the 997s company in the garage... !

Andrew - Nice car! Just curious why you chose the STI over the EVO - lots of competition between those two cars...

yeah they overall did a good job, no orange peel, although there was a few fish eyes... the fender fits and looks quite good, although the gas cap is not in good shape at all... much more matte than the other painted surfaces... scratched and tons of fish eye, overall a good job though

Well, i probably should have test driven the evo8 atleast but really, i didnt even think of it as an alternative. For 2005 the STi has a very nice interior really, the fit and finish is good and the layout is nice, plus its pretty good looking. The evo has a pretty crappy interior! The only bad side about the interior of the STi is the seats, well basically the seats are too wide for someone like me. I wish the STi came with the JDM seats because those were tighter, i guess they think all americans are wide! But they are still great seats!

The engine of the STi is superior too, not just on paper, 300hp/300tq vs 271hp in the evo (dont know tq) but more significantly the 2.5l flat4 is sooooo much smoother (sounds better too) than the 2.0 inline 4 in the evo's... i love the power delivery on the STi. Also the tranny of the STi is 6spd vs 5spd (i wish i had a chance to drive the evo's) my gripe with the STi is that the clutch grabs way high up in the release... it is quite unique

Most people agree out of the box the evo8 is the better handler... which is probably true, but its not that big of a difference. a lot of it probably has to do with the fact the evo comes with 235 tires and the STi has 225's

as far as looks go its quite subjective, i guess both are quite boy racer cars... duh, but i really like the defined fender flares on the STi plus i just like it, just because.

Finally, i believe subaru is the better company, i dont want the evo because of the fact its a mitsubishi and its not exactly the most reliable brand. The evo seems less quality, more fragile.

I totally respect the evo though, if i were to get one though i would only get the evo8 MR (the RS is great but thats a bit too hardcore)

i wrote that very fast, the fact is it comes down to personal prefrences with these cars, im just glad we are blessed with such a great rivalry! (too bad the USA doesnt get the other versions of the STi/evo, because there are tons!)

Re: Yay! Look what now keeps the 997s company in the garage.

Doesn't the Evo MR have the 6 spd?...i swear you can get a 6spd Evo in the States

Re: Yay! Look what now keeps the 997s company in the garage... !

Hope you enjoy it!!! (great car... an alternative to an M3)-- I however, can't get over its looks. (it looks really racy and everything... but that hood scoop kills the deal for me, and the LARGE wing). But hey, it will get you to where you need to go in a hurry and you will have a hell of a fun time doing it. Cheers!

yes it is very boy racer for sure... the hood scoop is functional though... its a top mount intercooler so it does feed air to it

Re: Yay! Look what now keeps the 997s company in the garage... !

so which will smoke who? the evo or da STi?

Re: Yay! Look what now keeps the 997s company in the garage.

the new evo will smoke the current STi, but obviously that's just for the moment...

Re: Yay! Look what now keeps the 997s company in the garage.

Very nice Andrew... great color too Have fun with it and be careful!

well that depends, the USDM STi vs the USDM evo8 in the straight line the STi wins, in a road course it leans to the evo8 although it should be said that it gets very close, for 05 the STi got some suspension upgrades and a new front LSD so it can do better in the twistys.

With that said the evo8 and STi are amazing "sedans" they are great performers in the twistys and in a straight line thank you homonogization (isnt that what its called?)

in the rest of the world there are about 1million different STi's and evo's its amazing soooo many different names (STi v limited solberg edition, STi S203, STi spec C type RA.... etc etc etc!) the same is for the evo

again its great the world has this rivalry

    It is called "homologation"

I did a snow & ice driver's ed on an Evo VIII and it was a blast! Drifting with the 4x4 was so much fun!
    Congrats to your new car!
Those golden rims are so pimperish!!!
