I considered waiting for the RR Sport before buying my Cayenne Turbo. My decision came down to speed - I fell in love with the Turbo's power, and given the supercharged RR Sports' performance numbers, I wasn't convinced it was worth the wait. I think if it came down to the Cayenne S vs. the supercharged RR Sport, I'd probably opt for the RR for a few different reasons 1) the local LR dealer's service is good as opposed to so-so service at the Porsche dealer 2) I like the looks of the RR S 3) if the handling is as good as writeups indicate, it may be very sporty 4) this is the kicker - I would be able to get any Ford product very close to invoice. As it stands, I am quite happy with my CT, but I look forward to driving the RR Sport when they arrive.

The exhaust tips looks 'detached' 
, I thought they should be integrated into the bumper to look complete and well flushed. IMHO, it does looks like it is trying very hard to look 'fast'. 
The RR looks very well refined and luxurious but I suppose it should well remain in its stature and target niche market rather than trying to be something else that it was not destined to be.

Yeah - after driving the Cayenne and reading all the reviews & materials on the RR Sport - i have put down a deposit for the regular aspirated 4.4 HSE RR Sport - the car is fully loaded for 60k - Dual Xenon, Adaptive Headlights, Full leather, Touch screen Nav, Bluetooth phone etcetcetc - I think it offers better value than the Cayenne and it saves me from the facelift of the cayenne that is expected next model year - The car is expected first week of July - I'll keep you updated but so far it seems that Porsche (in Addition to BMW and some others) will have a real competitor - the power/weight on the 'S' is better than the RR sport however but that comes at a significant higher price

I 'll be putting an order to replace my 2004 Range Rover HSE to the new Range Rover sport, I can assure the current Range Rover is no substitute for the Cayenne S or Turbo, I had the S and now the Turbo both are far more superior in terms of power and handling. But the New sport should be much better than the current Range Rover. There is something about the Range Rover that no Manufacturer matched the driving position of the Range Rover being so high up and comfortable "Truly Majestic" I hope you enjoy the new Range Rover Sport and tell us how it feels when you receive it. After much deliberation between the CayS and the RR HSE, I opted for the RR. Black exterior with jet/charcoal interior, lux package. Purchased last week of May when both Porsche and Land Rover were heavily discounting. Got the RR for 1% over invoice. Instead of trying to squeeze the sports car experience out of an SUV, now I'm going to shop for a nice used Boxter S. Still love the Cayenne, though, and the street performance would be fun, just not with kids in the back.

For me, the RR was never a consideration. While I would agree with teamyonex that trying to get a sports car experience out of an SUV is a compromise, I could never warm up to the RR. I thought it was too much like a truck. However, I was considering an LR3; Kid hauling is a major factor for me, so the LR3 was quite appealing with it's 3rd row and available DVD. The RR Sport became a better option (except for the lack of the 3rd row), especially with its looks and handling. I also like the fact that Land Rover seems to cater more to the luxury preferences of the buyer. The head rest DVD monitors, the available aux input for an ipod, etc. are things I'd love to have.

I'm shopping this as well..
What worries me? While the Cayenne has had it's "issues", they seem to have cleared up for '05. Range Rover hasn't exactly had the best track record either, add to that the fact that this is a 1st year product and you may be asking for trouble.

Re. the driving: the car has air suspensio which really makes the car move comfortable - the car is HEAVY so you need the HP's to get going - the Cayenne S is faster (lighter & more HP) but when you compare the features one by one, it will be approx 10-15k USD more expensive - The car standard comes FULLY loaded with Xenons, Air Suspension, Leather, ZF 6-spd Auto transmission, Touch Screen & Voice Guided Nav System etcetc - and... they dont' charge $$$ for metallic paint... The MPG is quite steep on the other hand it appears to be a very safe car - at least for the people inside - i guess you don't want to get hit by a 5500 LBS car...

I have a 2004 RR, and to me its the best car I've ever purchased.

To be honest I was completely skeptical about them until someone convinced me to test drive one, and that's all it took. There isn't another.
The Sport though has a different interior than the RR version - looks cool with the "pod" style cockpits, but there is far more plastic used in the Sport interior than the original one.
