Re: SUN'S LAST RUN TO WILSON, WY - 991 C2S CAB LIFE, END OF AN ERA (Part II)

That was a big one !

Re: SUN'S LAST RUN TO WILSON, WY - 991 C2S CAB LIFE, END OF AN ERA (Part II)

The 392 Rubicon AEV first glance.

Lowered tyre pressure to 27, and using the detachable sway bars, it feels like a motorboat going over the roughest tracks, you still bounce on big rocks but much more pleasant.

    IMG_8095.jpeg

The 37" tires are huge, dog ramp on order, although with judicious planning they can jump in.  Daddy has a a pull rope to help him get in

Re: SUN'S LAST RUN TO WILSON, WY - 991 C2S CAB LIFE, END OF AN ERA (Part II)

The real clincher is all the buttons are on the dash and not on the centre console -- so no Labradors selecting low range etc at 70 mph as in the LC.

    IMG_8041.jpeg

Madame loves Jeeps so I'm ordering another 392 AEV, and trading the LC as I couldn't stomach putting $60k into the LC conversion and having no warranty vs AEV which maintains the Jeep warranty and overlays its own; my local service guy has had great experience with AEV as well.

Re: SUN'S LAST RUN TO WILSON, WY - 991 C2S CAB LIFE, END OF AN ERA (Part II)

The Rubicon with it's huge tire and beefed up suspension looks perfect in this setting. Is this the ultimate off roader to go back in ?

Did you not dare try to cross that last bit of avalanche snow ?

Re: SUN'S LAST RUN TO WILSON, WY - 991 C2S CAB LIFE, END OF AN ERA (Part II)

Not that they need the endorsement, but I once drove to Tuweep [way, way off the beaten track] and the only vehicles there were Jeeps.

    A Wrangler and a 911--they don't come more iconic.

that's not the last bit, it's the first, although melting the avalanche is still  100' wide and 20' high. you sacrifice road manners but yes it's great for me whose life is 85% dirt/rocks and 50% low range.

El Yeep starting to mud up, proving quite the proper tool for my roads now deeply rutted by the rains, and the narrow nasties too, a foot narrower than the trx and raptor.

Our main tracks Way Back In are avalanched in for at least another few weeks.  This one covers not only the track but over 2000' of the Creek.  Hiking in from 8000' instead of 9,500'.  The joke is we'll Get In when the snow flies.  Well more than right now, 29F at night slowing the melt too.

It varies in beauty -  this track looks to have dried, but it has water now underground undermining the track, as we skirted this rut, the Right side collapsed dropping us into a high centre, with no winch point.  Only a couple mile walk, phone and Troy our local 4wd tow Pro from Dover had it out in 1/2 an hour...  Note to self:   just because it looks solid.... it might not be... it hardly looks damp.

Very little slash across the track, perhaps 50' plus snow in steep country led to little 5' deep slides every week.

    RC,

2 toes amputated [another just saved] to stop bone infections, and 12 $5,000 applications of stem cells to heal one of my massive leg wounds on a shin -  all to clear infections for surgeon approval for  my March hip op --- plenty of experience.  And I am well aware if my spinal hardware gets infected I am dead.

The Wound Dept nurses and I are good friends now I see them weekly - but life goes on, and we manage the wounds, and since shin wounds are worst as there's no flesh to push healing, I've even bought  some Austrian 3 ply knee socks for shin protection to prep for hip #2 in November!  But these surface cuts heal quickly even at my age.

As I said it's the next neck fall that's irretrievable.  But every day is a Joy.
