    More Cayman RS rumours...

... in Auto Express this week. Spy pics et al. Plus a review of sorts as they were invited to some of the testing.

I'm already owing the Ferrari guys some scans but I'll see if I can catch up with that and these tonight....

    Re: More Cayman RS rumours...

    SCAN SCAN SCAN :P

    Re: More Cayman RS rumours...

    please scan!!!!

    Re: More Cayman RS rumours...

Apparently, the RS, due 2007 will have the same 3.4 litre engine but will produce 340bhp and a sub 5 secs 0-60.

    sub sub 5.0

I suspect the Cayman S will already be sub 5 sec 0 to 60 (my bet is 4.8). Porsche quotes 5.1 and they are usually up to 0.5 sec on the conservative side. Most reviews already have the new Boxster S at 5 sec. RS should be closer to 4.5.

    Re: sub sub 5.0

.....10 yrs after the 968 CS, were at the same level of performance again?

I don't get how they do their conversion between 0 to 100 kmh and 0 to 60 mph.
Usually, by industry standard, the 0 to 60 are 0.2 sec faster than the 0 to 100 kmh which is ludicrous considering that 62 mph is 100 kmh!
So how can Porsche claim 0 to 100 kmh (0 to 62 mph) in 5.4 secs and 0 to 60 mph in 5.1 secs!
0.3 secs to cover 2 mph in speed! I know, it's only numbers and anal ones too but people are getting the wrong ideas here.
Also, if there is an RS version, it will not do 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 secs, bc that makes it faster than the Carrera S, and that will never happen, at least not on paper.
Where have you read that Boxster S does 0 to 60 in 5 secs?

    Re: sub sub 5.0

I have read that in a couple of articles:
One from Motor Trend comparison to SLK55:
"Porsche does it old school: Rev the high-winding six to around 5000 rpm, feather-dump the clutch, and if the launch is good, 0-to-60 takes five seconds, "
One from Excellence ("Porsche's Sleeper" on the cover): "Capable of 0-60 times under five seconds and a top speed 3 miles short of 170, the new Boxster S is a serious performance proposition"
It seems most that I have read say about 5 sec, with some around 5.2 and I think I saw one at 5.5.

Sounds a little optimistic.....340HP.....but it would be great if it happened, I wonder how much Porsche will charge for that little upgrade!

0-60 for the Cayman S better be less than 5 seconds with the Boxster S pretty much pegged at that. Same weight with more torque and HP......I'd like to see 4.8. Can't wait for the first reviews.

    Re: sub sub 5.0

Where have you read that Boxster S does 0 to 60 in 5 secs?

Road & Track magazine testers did it in 5.0 seconds. Also, some cars require a shift between 60 and 62 mph and some don't. As a result, some cars have a bigger difference than others in the 0-60mph vs 0-100kmh times. BTW, how do you guys get the quote to appear in a box?

You can either click the "Quote" button when replying, like I just did (it's just to the right of the "Reply" button), or you can use the "Quote" function in the "Instant UBB Code" section of the reply screen.

Does the Boxster S need a change of gear between 60 and 62? I didn't think so, but I may be wrong. Either way, I think the Cayman S is a lot quicker as most suspect, including my dealer. If the RS is indeed 340hp (and lighter in weight), it will be at least 3-4 tenth of a second faster again. Look at the difference between the 996 C2 and the GT3. You can expect similar difference in both price and performance.

Thanks. I thought I did that before but was unsuccessful. Let's see if this works. Eureka!

The 968CS only had 240hp and weighed about the same as the Cayman (and was not imported to the US).

    Those scans....

    Re: Those scans....

Thanks Rich as usual on top of every first hand news .

    Re: Those scans....

    Thanks Ron.

Interesting comment is that of an SLK based performace coupe - I've seen some pics of the Z4 coupe and it looks very good but the Merc version is a new one on me.. although sometime Auto Express, the mag the scans are from, does get a little carried away...

    Re: Those scans....

    Thanks for the scan, Rich!
"Cabin doesnt feel notisably smaller than the larger 911's"???
Last time I checked, the Boxster/Cayman was actually both longer, wider and lower than the 911...?
Must be the lack of 2 seats that makes the cabin seem small.

    Re: Those scans....

OHH MY GOD !! THANK YOU !!!!! KISSES !!!

    Re: Those scans....

Thanks for the update, interesting comments about the driving experience, that's the first one I've read. Clearly the car has significant potential, and it should come as no surprise that Porsche's top brass are keeping their cards closely held. Seeing the RS photo (which I assume is a Photoshop rendering), I'm considering a venture into a "jellybean" color such as Riviera or Blue Turquoise. Time will tell....again thanks for taking the time and effort to provide the article.

    white Cayman

Someone should photoshop off the orange stripe, lettering, and rear spoiler so we can at last have a picture of a Cayman S in a different color.

    Re: white Cayman

That Cayman RS looks too good to be true...

But the front bumper appear more aggresive than the standard Cayman. I would seriously consider getting the RS if it does come in that 911 RS colour scheme.

    Re: white Cayman

i'd definately buy the RS version, it looks so cute! lol!
