    Re: F Series 1970 Targa 2.2 E

    CGX car nut:

A fluid swap in the 915 to something like Swepco should help.

If using Swepco (best choice), make sure to use 201 version.  I recently tried 210 and it was like molasses.

That is special!  Good call on the fuel tank - so so cool as it sits.

    Re: F Series 1970 Targa 2.2 E

Wow - 110L tank is huge (the extended large tank on the GT3 is 90L) kiss

The racing fuel cell is only 12 Gallons (45.4L) in my 73 911 (have to re-fuel often).

110L of good fuel is going to cost a bunch in Europe. Smiley  I bet you'll easily feel the handling and acceleration change from full to empty as well (82 kg or 182 pounds).

    Looks beautiful Smiley

    Re: F Series 1970 Targa 2.2 E

    Looks sharp!

The turn indicator stalk on your car has a unique quality feel and precision to it that modern Pirsche owners have no idea or experience with!!! I guess that it's original Boge self leveling rear suspension is long gone or maybe it is a E that was optioned with S suspension. If it came with the optional gas heater, disconnect it!

Also you.might look into getting a modern ignition system for it. You will gain hp and it will run smoother and get better mpg. If you don't, at least get a Bosch sports coil for it.

And if you haven't changed the clutch cable yet, you might consider doing that as overtime they stretch and hasten the breaking of the clutch pivot pin.

Momo made a slightly smaller and same design steering wheel for 911s back then so if you want a smaller wheel that looks close to oem you might check ebay or regional porsche club parts for sale listings.

I'm not sure about putting a HD coil over suspension on a targa ,the rear wheel areas have a lot of flex in them stock and a small roll cage and not a full race roll cage to drastically stiffen the car might not get you much or could lead to body panel issues.

All in all,  they are a joy to drive. No power steering, no hydraulic clutch and the car has a light weight, visceral point and shoot handling ability that no modern Porsche can match.

    Good luck with it!!!

    Re: F Series 1970 Targa 2.2 E

Thank you for the input Jim.

I fully agree that these cars have a very special feel to them. And that is why I enjoy driving them so much.

No modern 911 will do that for me.......

The car was originally an E but the driveline and engine were upgraded to S spec. All matching numbers.

Do what he suggests!!  I've owned 3 of them. You will not regret it! I've owned mostvera 911s also. If you want a point and shoot sports car it's the way to go. If you have any questions about them feel free to ask.

    Re: F Series 1970 Targa 2.2 E

    thank you Jim

    Re: F Series 1970 Targa 2.2 E

managed to make it to the nordschleife for as couple of laps....great fun and it was a busy day with lots of people/cars.

very few classics that day....mostly modern sports and supercars.

really enjoyed it and what a magnificent track.

didn't want to push the old iron too hard as was alone and would have been annoying to break down as had further travel plans. nevertheless wasn't going too slow either :)
