    2022 BMW M5 CS

    I picked the CS up today and immediately embarked on a 700km trip with it. It was the first time I saw the car in daylight, and I really feared the color would be too bright, in combination with that matte finish and bronze accents. Turns out it's ok, it's a really dark shade of green, and remains so even in sunlight. It's hardly a wallflower, but it is growing on me.

    As the car is brand new, I'm running it in for the next 2000Km, so cannot comment much on engine/power. But what is immediately apparent is a sense of quality of engineering. This car feels so properly sorted, shot through with quality and talent throughout, it's incredible.It's a popular analogy with journalists, but it honestly feels like a GT3 sedan. If Porsche would engineer a Motorsport 4-door, this is how I imagine it would feel. The damping is of such quality, such control, it really is impressive. The transformation between driving modes is also very impressive, it can go from comfortable to really quite hardcore at the push of a button. Waw..

    As luck would have it Waze made me drive all the way through the Black Forest, which has some of the best roads you could possibly wish for. Brilliant way to get to know the car.

    The rest of the route was mostly autobahn in torrential rain, and that role as well it plays to perfection. It's silent, it's comfy, and even on the P Zero Corsa's it behaves nicely. The multimedia for me is a lot more pleasant than Mercedes', feels a bit old school perhaps but it works (CarPlay without cable, thank you BMW). The bucket seats are OK, if a bit irritating to have these huge bolsters to get over, once in, all good.

    In short, blown away with the quality. Yes it comes at a huge cost for a BMW 5er, but it feels more like a 4-door supercar than it does a normal sedan. The journo BMW CS-hype is justified. Coming home late, my son waited up in his pyjama's to see the car. 

    Don't mind the location of the license plate, they didn't want to drill holes in the bumper so still have to put it in place.

    So glad you like the M5 CS, it is really a very special car. I totally overlooked it's existence when it came out because I was in no mental shape to care about cars.

    500km of running in left. What remains most apparent to me is the depth of quality, it feels solid, a feeling I had most with my 997 RS as well. And the damping, and the steering. ❤️

    The latest BMW models are amazing when it comes to quality.

    I never thought I would say this but I love my Z4 M40i. Smiley I just got it as a daily driver and convertible but every time I drive it, I enjoy it tremendously. I love how it looks with that frozen (matte) grey color and the ride comfort is very good and still very sporty. This car is so fast for 340 hp...unbelievable. Stopped it at 10.0 sec flat from 100 to 200 kph, there is NO WAY IN HELL this car has 340 hp only. Rather something close to 400. I run it with Ulimate 102 fuel (102 octane Europe), so this could make a difference but these B58 engines, similar to the S58 engine (M3/M4) always produce more power. The steering is the only thing I don't like, can't feel much. Throttle response, even from a stop, is amazing for a turbo charged engine and even the exhaust sound is OK (not great though). Quality is top notch so far, no issues at all and the car has already 15000 km. Two software updates were already delivered OTA, no issues either everything works like a charm.

    BMW really rocks and I really didn't have them on my radar anymore over the past 10 years or so. Smiley

    Smiley Temperature was low? I am pretty happy with the Corsas in rain but they are temperature sensitive, I am very careful below 12°C or so...

    Doesn't your M5 have xDrive? Traction Off or switched to 2wd? Every German car I have ever owned with AWD was always superior when it came to traction on Michelin tires including a G63 on Dunlops.

    Pilot Sport S 5 has landed and will be replacing 4S within the next few years with more available size(s).

    It has, you can aquaplane with 6WD as well, it has nothing to do with the driven wheels, when the contact is lost you're a passenger.

    Passed the 2000km mark, apparently still can't go full-pull as the 'Einfahrkontrolle' needs to be carried out after running-in. The appointment is one week, so still a bit of restraint... That said, I'm only human, so I did exercise the engine a little bit by now. It's remarkably different to the one in the AMG, noticeable lighter on torque (of course tuned vs stock) and higher revving in nature. It invites you more to wring it out to get the most from it. Given the power comes more at the top end, it feels a bit easier to moderate. The character of the engine suits this more dynamic machine, I'd prefer the AMG-unit in a more regular Autobahn-rocket. The noise however is 100% in the camp of AMG, the M-unit sounds industrial, almost flat-plane like mixed with some turbo-swoosh. Reminds me a bit of the McLaren V8's, not a compliment.

    In short, fantastic car to discover, asbolutely in love with the way it drives.

    Great actually, very comfortable for my posture. Ok, getting in/out is a bit more of a hassle vs normal seats, but once seated they're excellent. I hear the same from the backseat/buckets.
