Re: OFFICIAL: Cayman GT4 RS (2021)

    mcdelaug:

Hello RT, I’ve not been on in a while… I’ve been kind of busy… Did I mention I retired last year (at 51)? I thought I would have more free time, but that was completely wrong!

Yesterday my phone rang, but it was a number I didn’t recognize. Normally I’d send it to VM, but somehow I decided to answer. It was my dealer! He said, “We received an allocation for a GT4RS and you are the next name on our list.” I answered, “Things have changed since I last bought a car at Porsche, so let’s just cut to the chase. What ADM are you asking?” His reply: “only MSRP.” I replied, “If you’re in the office this afternoon, I’ll come by to spec and make my deposit.”

And so I did just that. August delivery for MY 2024. I was suspicious, but I received all the build info and My Porsche registration, so it seems genuine. I’m keeping the Evo RWD Spyder, as I just love the theatrical experience it creates, but the GT4RS should fix my annoyance about the Evo’s lack of precision when pushing a little.

So I want to place my entry in the “longest wait time for an allocation” competition. I asked my dealer to list me for a then hypothetical GT4RS when I took delivery of my 981 GTS (3.4L) way back in June 2014. And apparently, they did just that!

I may need some help with the details of my build from those of you that already have cars. I hope that’s OK even though I haven’t posted in a while…

    Congrats!!

I think it's safe to say the Weisach package is a must, as you get the trick carbon side intake with that.

After that just about every option is a personal choice, there is no right or wrong. Bucket seat or sofa, magnesium wheels or aluminum, colour etc are all up to you. So is race-tex trims and stuff.

Re: OFFICIAL: Cayman GT4 RS (2021)

Thanks everyone. I want to push the weight as low as possible, so ‘yes’ to Weissach, Mg wheels, PCCBs and Sirius antenna delete (what’s that 20g?). I’ll say ‘no’ to Bose, fire extinguisher, 18 ways and all the leather add ons.
Colorway? Currently PTS is not orderable… So this will be my third silver mid engine car (arctic silver 987S, rhodium 981GTS and now GT silver 982GT4RS). I want the ‘GT2 stripe’, neodyme wheels and I’ll leave the calipers yellow. Interior gray with yellow belts, door handles and carbon fiber mats with yellow edging. LEDs, smoking package for the extra 12V, and the interior lighting. USD 217k before TTL.

Re: OFFICIAL: Cayman GT4 RS (2021)

The 4 i viewed at my dealer looked terrific. Good choice.kiss

I’m reluctant to ask but is 217,000 correct? Are you sure they didn’t include ADM?

Re: OFFICIAL: Cayman GT4 RS (2021)

No ADM. Base price for MY 2024 is just above 160K. Weissach + Mg wheels are another 31K. Paint 3K, lift 3K, stripe 2K, you can get to 217K pretty easily.

Re: OFFICIAL: Cayman GT4 RS (2021)

Someone was able to get this one to $288,580 before ADM! (not me)

    Mostly in interior leather options...

Re: OFFICIAL: Cayman GT4 RS (2021)

I remember obsessing about the options I would add for my 987S, I think I ended up at $58,500 for the car. I had moonlighted for months to put that cash together. There was a time when 288K could get you a used CGT. That seems so far away now!

That is a very nice configuration !

I suppose you are taking the race-teck dash board ?

Re: OFFICIAL: Cayman GT4 RS (2021)

Thanks Gnil, yes for the alcantara dashboard.

My dealer has no information to share about carbon component shortages. RTers usually know more than dealers though…

This pic from Wikipedia looks very much like what I expect:

Got my car out of hibernation. A toy...  an angry one indecision

I noticed my tire pressure monitor  tells me I am +0.3 bars at the back when I actually run the recommended 2.0 bar front and 2.3 bar back pressures written on sticker in the the door passage. .

Have the official pressure been changed to 2.0 front and 2.0 back ?

Can the guys who just received a new car check what is written in the door and compare to what the PTMS tells them ?

Re: OFFICIAL: Cayman GT4 RS (2021)

    Mine is a 12/22 car, says 34psi / 2.3 bar for what it’s worth.

Is that what is written in the door ? Did you compare it with what  the PTMS says when you check how much over or under inflated you are ?

What is written on the door, going on a drive later will let you know what display says.

sticker says 30/34psi, so 2/2.34 bar

Car’s display said +3 as yours did when at 2.3 bar

Strange , isn't it ?  Means the PTMS is programed to be at 2.0 bar (30 psi)  at the back, same as front .

Agreed, very weird that they don't line up the same.  Pinged my tech just to see what he had to say.  I asked if one was for a fully loaded vehicle and one was not.  He said correct.  I didn't notice where I could pick a different setting on the TPMS screen.  Will look next time.

There is no different setting on the TPMS screen, except summer or winter tire.

Normally the door sticker does indicate two different settings when there is a full charge and a standard charge.

You may want to look inside the owner's manual.  For the 992 GT3, there are two different sets of pressures.  One higher set for highway use and for speeds over 290 kph and one much lower set for "Performance".  Given my tire wear (wearing the center of the treads and not on the shoulders at all even at the track), I think under 2.0 Bar front and rear may be fine when cold if you intend to do some enthusiastic driving.

But having said all that, you should disregard those annoying warnings of "+" or "-" pressure.  Those are useless and just an annoyance, in my experience.  I have to frequently clear those warnings (especially at the track).  It doesn't mean you have too much or too little pressure relative to the recommendations, it means your pressure changed from what it was before (which is common with use and weather changes).

Re: OFFICIAL: Cayman GT4 RS (2021)

Grant, I have a question regarding tire wear in the center. Is it a sign of overinflation (causing the tire to "balloon", i.e., to be more round, resulting in more contact and wear in the center)? Or is it a sign of underinflation (causing the tire not to be "stretched" properly, allowing it to balloon at high speed instead of the contact patch remaining flat)?

I used to assume the former, but I was told years ago that it was, counterintuitively, the latter.

I believe that under-inflation wears the shoulders and over-inflation wears the center.
