It'll be interesting to see how this new Sport S 5 pans out in comparison the Continental's Sport Contact 7, I just bought a full set on the new Conti's for my 997GT2 to go on some new 20" rims, the reviews are really good and interestingly the Contis are a lot cheaper than Michelins.

2023 Festival of Speed Central Feature to celebrate Porsche

We’re delighted to announce that the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed [13-16 July 2023] presented by Mastercard will celebrate Porsche, including the legendary central feature display.

    (26 April 2023)

This year’s Festival coincides with not just the 75th anniversary of the creation of Porsche’s very first sportscar – the 356 – but also the 60thbirthday of perhaps the most celebrated performance car in history: the Porsche 911.

Porsche’s year of anniversaries is also perfectly aligned with the Festival of Speed’s theme this year: Goodwood 75, in which we celebrate 75 years of motorsport at Goodwood – since the circuit opened in 1948. As part of our showcase of all things Porsche, daily displays will take place in front of the house, as well as a dedicated parade of cars from the Stuttgart company, that showcase its 75-year history.

In addition to this, and the central display in front of the house, there will be more static exhibits and new immersive displays across the site that will both delight and amaze all fans of Porsche and motoring in general. While Gerry Judah’s latest incredible sculpture, sat in front of the iconic Goodwood House, will no doubt draw the eye, it will be the cars on the 1.16-mile Goodwood Hill that really grab the soul.

    Porsche Central Feature 02.jpg

Porsche’s history with motoring stretches far beyond its iconic road cars. The marque has won the famous Le Mans 24 Hours more times than any other brand (19), as well as winning the gruelling Dakar rally, the World Sportscar Championship, and F1 races. Expect to see some of the cars that secured these legendary titles, as well as Porsche’s most amazing road machines, strutting their stuff on every day of the event.

The 911 itself, which was showcased at the 80th Members’ Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport, has competed in almost every discipline of motorsport outside of single-seater racing. 911s have won Le Mans, the Targa Florio, Daytona 24, and the Dakar Rally.

Speaking about the announcement Festival of Speed founder The Duke of Richmond said: “Porsche has been one of our most loyal and enthusiastic partners, supporting the Festival of Speed since 1995, and the Revival since 2010.

“This year Porsche will become the first manufacturer to create the Central Feature at the Festival of Speed for the fourth time, underlining the huge success of this iconic manufacturer as we both celebrate a milestone of 75 years."

    Porsche Central Feature 03.jpg

Krishan Bodhani, CEO, Porsche Cars Great Britain, added: “We’re delighted that Goodwood is giving us this brilliant opportunity to share our passion with enthusiasts, Porsche fans and owners here in the UK.

“Some 75 years ago, Ferry Porsche dreamed of a sports car, a dream realised in the 356. In the same way, 30 years ago The Duke first realised his dream of a unique motoring event. The Goodwood Festival of Speed is therefore the perfect setting for us to celebrate our anniversary.”

This will be the fourth time that Porsche has been the celebrated marque at the Festival. The first was as one of the very first Central Features in 1998 – this featured racing sportscar on poles in front of the house. The second was a famous 911 display in 2013, which has since been replicated at the Porsche museum, and the latest was in 2018 with an extraordinary sculpture feature featuring  no fewer than six cars.

I wouldn’t say the new cars are hideous, but I do think they need a fairly radical makeover. Styling for styling sake is dangerous, but so is boring evolution.

Wait for the hybrid variant, more horsepower and a lot more weight.  The new AMG S63 gains 130 bhp with a nearly 900 pound weight gain over its predecessor.  Remember all of this is good for the planet.

"Porsche Le Mans legends coming to 2023 Festival of Speed"

    (23 June 2023)

Porsche’s celebrations at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard will be tremendous, as the marque looks back on both 75 years as a sportscar maker and 60 years of the 911.

The big one? A world dynamic debut for what might yet be remembered as one of the all-time great Porsches and, subsequently, all-time great sportscars, the new 718 Spyder RS. Joining it from quite literally the other end of the marque’s history, 356 Number One, otherwise known as the Porsche that started it all. So clear is the family link, even 75 years apart.

Porsche 718 RS Spyder coming to Goodwood Festival of Speed

In between these beginning and bookend points of Porsche history to date, the marque will be bringing along a whole host of incredibly significant cars from its past and its present, while also giving us a look into the future, to demonstrate and to be displayed, in support of the festivities.

Joining for the Le Mans 100th anniversary celebrations, three outright winners will run among a number of highly successful racers from the history of the marque at the enduro. From the 936/81 of Jacky Ickx and Derrick Bell, to the 911 GT1/98 of Alan McNish, Laurent Aiello and Stéphane Ortelli, to the Porsche 919 of 2017, which was driven to victory by Earl Bamber, Timo Bernard and Brendon Hartley.

The 718 W-RS Spyder that won the 1961 2.0-litre class will join alongside the Group 5 class-winning Martini 935 of 1976, and the 911 RSR ‘Sau’ or ‘Pink Pig’ that won GTE-Pro class in 2018. Porsche of course is the winningest marque at Le Mans, with 20 outright victories under its belt, claiming victory for no less than a fifth of the race’s 100-year history.

Porsche 959 coming to Goodwood Festival of Speed

In the Porsche celebration parade, some incredible pieces of the marque’s history will be turning a wheel, including the first ever 356 that first hit the road just over 75 years ago. It will lead a group of cars including the experimental 928 ‘Trigema’ and the Transsyberia Cayenne. From the road comes an example of Porsche’s original supercar, the 959, as well as a 993 Turbo S and the millionth 911 built.

In terms of Porsche’s road cars, Festival of Speed attendees will see the latest and greatest from Stuttgart and Weissach, including the new 911 GT3 RS and of course the new Boxster Spyder RS that, as above, is getting its global dynamic debut. The new 911 Dakar and the Cayman GT4 RS featuring the Manthey Racing kit will be joining them too. Of course, driving all of these Porsche road and racing cars will be a selection of talented folks, with some famous faces taking to the racers Porsche has yet to announce.

The 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed takes place from the 13-16 July.

"The Porsche Mission X is coming to the 2023 Festival of Speed"

    (11 July 2023)

Porsche is of course the celebrated marque this year at the Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard and it’s coming in hot, with its enormous presence lead by the public debut of the stunning Mission X hypercar concept. The hypercar is the vision of an all-electric successor to the Carrera GT and 918 Spyder, with nods to classic Porsche prototypes like the 917. The goals are one horsepower per kilogram of weight and indeed, to topple records at the Nürburgring.

Porsche Mission X at the 2023 Festival of Speed

You’ll find the Mission X on the Porsche Experience stand near Molecomb corner, alongside a whole host of current Porsche production cars. It’s Porsche’s ‘touchstone’ at the Festival, where there will be driver interviews, product tours and more.

Of course, you’ll be seeing plenty of Porsche road and racing cars in action on the Hill. The new 718 Spyder RS gets its debut, alongside the new 911 GT3 RS. They’ll be joined by a Manthey Racing-fettled Cayman GT4 RS in the Supercar run, while the 911 Dakar and Carrera T will be running in the First Glance batch.

The Mission X is a look into the future of Porsche’s very fastest cars, as we celebrate its 75 years to date and indeed, 60 years of the 911. We’re also celebrating 100 years of Le Mans, the world’s greatest motor race with which Porsche has built a huge amount of its reputation and where it remains the winningest marque.

Look to the Hill and you’ll see plenty of incredible Porsche racing cars, including an impressive cohort of prototypes, Le Mans winners and 911s. There’s a GT3 Cup in the Timed Shootout too, which for those who remember last year’s edition, could prove entertaining to say the least.

There will be Porsches all over the rest of the Festival, from the Lego Town featuring a miniature Porsche Centre, to Porsche Classic, to the ‘Dream Big’ art installation on the cricket pitch, to the 5,000th Carrera Cup race car at the Porsche Cafe Le Mans. Then, of course, there’s the spectacular Central Feature, but we can’t tell you anything about that… yet.

New Porsche Concept at Goodwood Festival of Speed...  E0F26BDD-E91B-4EF4-964B-7C4204B9E420.gif

"Purism meets e-performance: the new Porsche Vision 357 Speedster"

Porsche Vision 357 Speedster, 2023, Porsche AG

    13/07/2023

Porsche marks the 30th anniversary of the famed Goodwood Festival of Speed in style with the Porsche Vision 357 Speedster. The new concept car is the sister-model to the closed Porsche Vision 357 with which the sports car manufacturer launched its own anniversary-year celebrations.

In design terms an homage to the 356, technologically the all-electric Porsche Vision 357 Speedster is based on the 718 GT4 e-Performance. Overall, Porsche presented more than 15 new and classic models on the grounds of the Duke of Richmond in West Sussex. One of the highlights is the 356 No. 1 Roadster, the very first sports car from the brand. Six Le Mans winners were also on display for the motorsport aficionados in attendance.

“The Porsche Vision 357 is a nod to the first Porsche model line, Ferry Porsche’s dream sports car. And since the 356 has burned itself into the collective brand memory as both a convertible and a coupé, the same logic applies to the concept car: there can only be two,” says Michael Mauer, Vice President Style Porsche. “The Porsche Vision 357 Speedster embodies the essence of the brand. Driving pleasure and driving dynamics combined with an extremely purist form. As with the Mission X that we presented just a few weeks ago, this model demonstrates that even with fresh design genes, the Porsche DNA shines through.”

The Vision 357 Speedster is based on the technology of the Porsche 718 GT4 e-performance. So the electric motors and battery technology come from the Mission R and the chassis from the 718 GT4 Clubsport. Following its world premiere at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the design study will be on display at this year's Rennsport Reunion in the USA at the end of September.

Exterior design: shortened front windscreen and one-sided tonneau cover

The concept car has the squat, shortened windscreen that is typical of a speedster, lending even more emphasis to the car’s monolithic body. Spanning the right side of the car is a tonneau cover of the type once common on open-top sports cars. The driver’s headrest appears suspended in the air due to the technically designed carbon roll-over element behind it. Behind that is the charge port door and the anchor for the classic speedster top.

The two-colour concept with the two grey tones Marble Grey and Grivelo Grey Metallic is inspired by historic motorsport forerunners, such as the front fenders used to protect against flying rocks in race scenarios and the front wings, which feature the darker Metallic colour. The front wheels are also painted in Grivelo Grey Metallic. This is complemented by contrasts in Miami Blue, for example on the quick-release mechanisms on the wrap-around front bonnet.

The anniversary logo with the large “75” and the two years “1948” and “2023” feature Grivelo Grey Metallic and Miami Blue – a fresh alternative to the decorative elements of the coupé Vision 357, where red was used as an additional colour. Above this are comic-style unicorns in front of the rear wheels. The mythical creature was drawn specifically for the concept car by Porsche designers, who also put their hand to the punchy “Speedster” logo. Cameras replace the exterior mirrors. As in the classic forebears, they are not positioned on the doors, but further forward on the fenders. In the open-top 357, they feature a new, aerodynamically optimised shape reminiscent of wings.

Design Sketch, Porsche Vision 357 Speedster, 2023, Porsche AG

Other details of the exterior design are familiar from its sister concept car: the four-point light signet on the front features a round design evocative of the Porsche 356. The rear lights sit behind a patterned array of points milled in the body itself. Another nod to the first Porsche model line is the vertical grille pattern in the rear. The third brake light is integrated in the grille design.

The wide track makes a bullish impression and enhances driving stability. The 20-inch wheels are made of magnesium and are equipped with carbon fibre hubcaps and central locks. Visually, they also recall a legendary Porsche wheel: the 356 A and 356 B with drum brakes had rims with the notably large bolt circle of 205 millimetres.

    Interior design: purist, reduced cockpit

The interior is reduced to the essential and fully tailored to the driver. The low-slung seat position is quintessentially sporty. The CFRP seat shell is integrated in the monocoque. The driver sits on Racetex-covered pads and held firmly in place by six-point seat belt with a Miami Blue belt strap. The instrument cluster sits atop the steering column as a transparent surface. The racing steering wheel exemplifies lightness, while the impact absorber appears as if suspended. The individual controls, meanwhile, revisit the accent colour Miami Blue from the exterior.

Porsche Vision 357 Speedster, 2023, Porsche AG

The entire dashboard is in a carbon-weave finish. As an alternative to a conventional glove compartment, Miami Blue straps in the upper right section can be used to secure accessories. Simple fabric straps replace conventional door handles. This detail from the racing milieu saves weight.

Parade of icons: other Porsche models at the Festival of Speed

The Vision 357 is the Porsche highlight at Goodwood, but it is far from the only rarity from the sports car manufacturer that will be on hand for the event. Porsche will be bringing more than 15 new and classic models to West Sussex. A special Porsche parade will ascend the famous hill twice daily at the Festival of Speed. The illustrious field will be led by the 356 No. 1 Roadster. It will be followed by the 928 “Trigema” race version from 1983, a Cayenne Transsyberia, a 959, a 911 Turbo S (type 993) and a very special 911 Carrera S (991). This one-off model was the one-millionth 911 manufactured since the advent of the iconic sports car in 1963.

Porsche will also be celebrating the 100th anniversary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in Goodwood. After all, the brand holds the record of 19 overall victories. Porsche will also be showing three class champs and three overall winners, among others, in Goodwood. This includes the 718 W-RS Spyder (winner of the 2.0-litre class in 1961), the 935 Martini (class winner in 1976) and the 911 RSR in the “Pig” design (winner of the GTE Pro class in 2018). The trio of overall winners includes the 936/81 Spyder, the 911 GT1 '98 and the 919 Hybrid from 2017.

Porsche 718 Spyder RS becomes the pinnacle of the mid-engined family

Thirty years after the presentation of the Boxster concept car, Porsche is launching the most powerful version yet of the popular mid-engined roadster: the new Porsche 718 Spyder RS.

After their premieres at the festivities marking “75 Years of Porsche Sports Cars”, the 718 Spyder RS and the Mission X will be presented to the wider public for the first time at Goodwood. The development of the purist roadster, the 718 Spyder RS, was dedicated to maximum driving pleasure on winding country roads. The Mission X concept car is the spectacular reinterpretation of a hypercar, with Le Mans-style doors that open up and forward, and a high-performance, efficient electric powertrain.

Porsche Mission X: yet another dream takes shape

Mission X is a spectacular reinterpretation of a hypercar, with Le Mans-style doors that open upwards to the front and a high-performance, efficient electric powertrain.

In addition to other current models from the Stuttgart-based sports car manufacturer, Goodwood visitors will also have the opportunity to see a Porsche “Junior 108” diesel tractor. After all, commissions for customer developments were an integral part of the company portfolio in the days when the Porsche 356 was in production. Between 1949 and July 1963, some 120,000 tractors were built under licence with the Porsche name.

One-of-a-kind: the Goodwood Festival of Speed

The British Sunday Times once described the legendary hill climb at the Festival of Speed as a “cross between the Monaco Grand Prix and the Royal Ascot”. A demanding course lined by hay bales, the 1.86 km course is a challenge for driver and car alike. The circuit runs through the grounds of Goodwood House, the estate of Charles Henry Gordon-Lennox, 11th Duke of Richmond. The avid motorsport enthusiast established the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 1993. Some 180,000 motorsport fans attend the event for historic and modern racing cars at the site in West Sussex in southern England each year. To mark the 75th anniversary of the Porsche brand, a sculpture by artist Gerry Judah will be the centrepiece of the Festival of Speed.

Homage to the special racing model from the 70s

    (13 July 2023)

"There is a new member in the Porsche Heritage family. After the 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition with historic design features and the 911 Sport Classic, Porsche is launching the 911 ST – a homage to the special racing model from the 1970s, which was only built 24 times. The basis for the new edition is likely to be the 911 GT3 Touring, powered by the four-liter boxer naturally aspirated engine with 510 hp and a maximum torque of 470 Nm. It is not known whether Porsche has given the sports coupé a little more power, as they did with the Sport Classic, or whether they will stick with the performance of the Touring..."

I like the ST, but I still wish Porsche will let it be optioned with asymmetric (different front and rear) wheel designs. Thanks for posting all these great items!

This color combo looks exactly like my Specialized turbo levo...I think it suits the bike better!

Specialized has completely overhauled the Turbo Levo range for 2019
