    Next generation Boxster

I know this has been discussed previously but with the 987 sittings at the Porsche factory, is it reasonably certain that the next generation Boxster will be introduced in the Fall of 2004, as a 2005 model?

I'm in the last 12 months of my lease and fighting the urge to pay it off and get out of it now (or the next 6 months), especially if a new Boxster and Carrera are 12 months away. Help!

    Re: Next generation Boxster

I think it would be reasonable to assume that the new Boxster will come out before the 997, as did the initial offering of 986/996 sequence. I'm probably saying this wrong, but I believe that Boxsters need "selling" where 911s sell themselves. JMHO..

    Re: Next generation Boxster

Latest rumor: new Boxster for MY 2005 (starting summer 2004).
As always: rumors have to be taken with a grain of salt.

    Re: Next generation Boxster

Thanks RC. Would you happen to know the engine and horsepower the 987 will have? I've heard it will be using the 3.4L but with 270 horse power.

I'm actually on the fence between a S and a 996 Coupe. However, I prefer roadsters but horse power issues may draw me to the 996. Thanks again.

Difficult to say how much power the new Boxster will have.
I heard that the top version is rumored to produce 300 HP and even more as soon as the 997 hits the dealers.
My personal guess is that we'll see three Boxster models from Porsche:

    • Boxster 2.7 with 240 HP
    • Boxster 3.0 with 270 HP
    • Boxster 3.2 with 300 HP

Just a guess...don't take it too serious.
I heard a lot of rumors of internal "argueing" about the power of future models, so there could be some surprises.
Fact is: Porsche already has the model road map ready up til 2010. Too many changes, especially radical changes, shouldn't be expected.
The decision about a 4th model will be taken earliest end of this year.

    Re: Next generation Boxster

aesthetically speaking, if that is the final cut, it's a very smooth looking car. I like the 356ish trunk lid and the rear tail lights that don't go all the way over to the engine cover. Also the interior has a very "balanced" look to it. I say, well done, except for the "turboish" look front grilles. I liked them better when they were a bit more recessed. I hope the 997 doesn't come out looking like a Boxster on steoids

p.s.I'm thinking to stay with my 996 Turbo until the new 997 Turbo is available(now i love my car,for me 996 TT is the best car in the world)....i'm thinking right or is better that i change my ideas from a 997 TT to a New 360/Gallardo??

    Re: Next generation Boxster

    Ciao dario

Non so se sei già al corrente, a settembre 2003 verra presentata una versione ristilizada del 360 Modena(non male) .

    Re: Next generation Boxster

Thanks 330,but for now i prefer to stay with Porsche.....

From 1993 to 2002 i changed a car for year becouse i can't find a car that make me happy....now i'm really happy with my car and i think the perfect substitute will be the 997 Turbo a car with all quality of the the 996 Turbo but with more Power(i hope) and more aggressive look...

    Wait and see

    Ciaoo

    Your next car!

It's all the time the same question!
If you want the whole package, then stick with Porsche ie the future 997 Turbo (2005 or 2005 I'd say)
I too believe that you have the best car in the world right now!
Faster in acceleration than a Murcielago! (Tested by Autocar with X50) maybe not the fastest in a straight line as RC will tell you but averall, the best compromise.
Next Modena? Possibly more involving but too fragile and that's without mentionning the maintainance cost which should be way more than the Porsche.
Gallardo? A german Modena. So basically, whatever made the charm of the Modena is gone.
If money was no object, I'd probably recommend a Carrera GT or a Zonda S, but in the Turbo price range, it's the best.
    Fanch.

    Re: Your next car!

    Good said!!!

The best thing is stay with Porsche!!

    Christian came back!! HAHAH

Thinking the next car three years before is not normal... but is good

This means that Porsche already knows exactly how the next generation Turbo will look alike, how much power it will have and of course the technical details.
Personally I think that the next 996 generation won't be too revolutionary (at least not as revolutionary as the change from the 993 to the 996) but more a kind of evolution.
This has good and bad parts.
Good part: the 911 stays the classic flat six powered rear engine drive sports car.
Bad part: I don't think the power upgrade will be too radical and unfortunately I think that the weight will slightly go up further.

    Re: Next generation Boxster

This is just my personal opinion:

In my opinion Porsche will not make any radical changes powerwise and lookwise to the upcoming 997. My feeling is just minor enough to get their sales ravenue going till the next generation 911 (998 ?).

If I had 996 TT I would stick with it and probably wait for the next Gen. 911 (not 997) but 998(?).

As RC mentioned under Boxster discussion earlier, I have also heard that the next Gen. Boxster (987) will have a 300HP version.
If they do then the Boxster 300HP would be an ideal daily drive for me and a Gallardo for the weekend and the performance purposes.

Thanks everyone. I do recall seeing these pictures.

With the new interior, I believe the digital speedometer will be back in the center. If you look on the left gauge, there isn't any room for it.

Re: we are out of topic

Christian,if you whant you can open a new thread.. ;)

What you said is perfect, but if you look on the Turbo price category, which car you choose??

    Re: Next generation Boxster

I think as you said that 997 is an evolution of the 996,like the 964 and 993..

    But now.....when 998 comes out?!?!!?
If 997 TT is scheduled for 2005/2006,998 not before 2009/2010...now we are in 2003 and in seven years also life can change...

RC tell that Porsche just know the look, the weight and the power of the 997TT...any rumors??

My next car is probably a 997TT,but is interesting also a 997 GT3/Cup/RS...

    Thanks guys

Dario, why don't you just enjoy your 996 TT and wait until the next generation is read to roll.
I'm sure you'll hear about it on Rennteam.com as soon as possible.

I know this is now pure speculation but from what I heard, the next generation 996 Turbo will have a 5 at the beginning of the power output figure.
I can't say (because I don't know, not that I don't want to say it) if this means 500 HP or 510 or even more but it seems that the 5 will surely be there as the first digit.

    Gallardo perf a bit dissapointing

    Ron,
Don't know about US press but it is all over the UK mags and to my surprised is outperformed by the 996 Turbo especially in X50. Not too mentionned that like RC said once, the Turbo (and X50) has great genes for power upgrade.
So if it's OVERALL perf you're after, there is no substitute: Porsche!
If it's style, noise, etc. then it's a another story!
    Fanch.

    Re: Next generation Boxster

Yes Christian...this is only to talk.. ....

I love my car and i think to change it only when the next generation will be ready....

But if you say me that minimum HP are 500....i start dreaming

You know that Rennteam is my favorite site/forum!

    Ciao

p.s. two days to the Nurburgring!!i can't wait!

Wow, I had no idea . it is disappointing.

Outperformed? Did they compare both cars on the race track?
    Or just straight line performance?
The X50 (especially the factory cars ) are very very powerful.

Re: Gallardo perf a bit dissapointing

No test match, but just references, 0 to 100 on the paper is identical (4.2 secs) although Top Gear has achievied 3.9 with the X50 (o to 60 mph).
Press seems to say that the Gallardo feels like a Turbo with Italian style in terms of handling.
    Fanch.

The X50 with the 3.9 sec. figure from 0-100 kph is a very powerful car. I think it is the same car which has been tested by AMG, obtaining a better 0-200 kph time than the GT2.

I'd say we should wait for a SPORT AUTO test of the Gallardo.
What I like about the Gallardo is it's design, even if it isn't perfect. But the Murcielago is way too expensive...

    Re: Next generation Boxster

well, my wife goes ga-ga every time she see's a boxster and has proclaimed now that I'm getting my (our) E55, she wants a Boxster, so here I go on a learning quest to find out everything I can, so I can order the boxster I (she) wants!!
