For those of you that have or have driven your new GT3

For those of you that have driven it or have taken delivery of it, can you please post some driving impressions for the poor bastards that have a car either waiting for production or sitting at a port somewhere in the world?

    How does the car drive?
Does it feel that much different from a C2 or C4, if so how?
Does it kick you in the ass?
Is it a blast or is it just ok?

Tell us, we are dying, or at least I am, to know how that son of a b*itch feels compared to the rest of Porsche's product.
    Thanks

Re: For those of you that have or have driven your new GT3

I have been dying for some personal impressions as well. Pictures are swell but they are a tease. I will eventually be getting my Aprilia pretty soon, that might suffice for now.

Re: For those of you that have or have driven your new GT3

    Hi-

I've driven the GT3 about 1000 miles in europe. From the flats of the autobahns to the bumps of the stelvio pass. It a a blast to drive.

It is really a handful over the bumps because you are constantly fighting the steering wheel to keep in on course. I was playing cat and mouse with a turbo on a stretch of autobahn. The guy in the Turbo knew the road and I wasn't sure about what was coming around some of the bends so he flew by me at 270kph. He was probably going 300.
The GT3 was as solid as a rock.
The acceleration is ever gear will push you against the seat.
I was averaged about 13.6 mpg over the course of the 1000 or so miles.
If you want a car that is really smooth and fast, do not get a GT3. It is lightening fast and the suspension will keep you in and out of every rut, hole and imperfection on the road.
If you wear dentures, make sure they are cemented in real well because they might be jolted out of you mouth.

Re: For those of you that have or have driven your new GT3

Thanks for the "fix" Lon, much appreciated.
Just curious of how it feels differently from the C2 or C4.
Is it like black and white different, from a C2?

    Comparison to my 996 C4S

Well heres a quick comparison to my C4S...

I have had my GT3 for 5 days now and done 350 miles, haven't revved it to high yet, still keeping it below 5000/6000 RPM, but it just pulls you like a train, under hard acceleration in all gears you get pushed in your seat....

What I find amazing is the traction, under a hard get away the rear wheels refuse to loose grip...Even in the wet the amount of grip is awesome. The amount of traction doesn;t seem to be any worse than the C4S....

In the corners, the lack of body roll is amazing, I have a Euro car so not sure if the suspension is different... But the car seems to grip, then at the apex it seems to start to loose it, then it just grips more and more on the exit....The C4S was probably as grippy but the body role made it seem less so....I have been driving the car around London, and anyone who has driven here knows we have some of the worst roads in Europe, but it really isn't harsh......

The noise it makes is excellent, I have a friend who spent a lot of time in an F355 and he says from inside the car the GT3 sounds better....

Anyone who hasn't got one on order should get there name down, these cars are awesome....

I'll report more when I have put more miles on the car....

Re: Comparison to my 996 C4S

Car sounds great, can't wait till I get mine.
    Thanks Sean.

    good

Is anyone else annoyed by people who say things like, I wish I had a GT3 with a softer suspension? That wouldn't be a GT3, buy a C2 instead In my opinion, if car makers hear things like this, it ruins future versions of the car. A more obvious example of this is when cars grow in size as the model years go on, people should have just bought a car that's bigger instead of wanting a small car to grow.

(Lon I'm not saying that you said the gt3 should be softer, nor implied it, your post just reminded me, btw congrats on the GT3, great write up)

Re: For those of you that have or have driven your new GT3

Is the 997 going to be slighter bigger than the 996? I remember reading the height of the car might be slightly taller.

    Sean,

Aren't all of these cars spoken for in the UK? I tried to get hold of one when I heard (on Rennteam) that a successor was planned. The sales guy at the OPC refused to let me put a deposit down as I wasn't an existing GT3 owner. This is in spite of me spending Pounds120k on previous cars with them...

    Rob

Yes all of these cars are spoken for it the UK. I beleive 40 cars are coming and there are 300 orders....

I got the first customer car in the UK....

    Cheers

Sean & other owners: How's the new e-gas?

Is the throttle easy to blip for downshifts and how is the throttle response in general?

    Thanks,
    Grant

Re: Comparison to my 996 C4S

Change delaer, and let them know!
I find this totally unacceptable! Especially since you're a previous owner.
Who do they thing they are!
You should also write a letter of complaint to Porsche GB.
    You're the costumer!
Buying a new GT3 has nothing to do with owning the previous GT3 or any other Porsches as a matter of fact.
Not the same amplitude, but I complained directly to Porsche France when my car wasn't delivered with sport exhaust and when I heard that the dealer told me they were not availble yet (wait would be more then 6 weeks whereas I read in Autocar that their test car was equiped with one)
I received the Sport exhaust in 48 hours
    Fanch.

    Re: Rob

    It's amazing - what recession?

12 months ago I tried to make a deposit for a GT3 RS before the salesmen had even heard of the model. He flat refused to take my money, saying that the cars would be sold only to GT3 owners. Porsche GB sales people suck.

I'll wait for the dust to settle with the new GT3 and try to import one or buy someone's place in the queue. At least I've got a 993tt to console myself with in the meantime.

Fanch - maybe a letter to PCGB is a good option.

    Re: Rob

Rob Drop me a PM I may be able to help.....

    There are ways and means

    Throttle Response

    Grant

The throttle response is excellent, especially above 3K, and I expect it to get better as the engine runs in, only have 450 miles on it....

You can easily blip the throttle on the down change, it's is very similar to the C4S...

The gear selection problems have gone away, maybe I got use to it, or it has worn in.....

The car is phenominal....I spent a day in a 996 Turbo recently and beleive the GT3 is more me as you fell me attached and more involved in the car.

You will not be disappointted....If anyone is every in London, I can do the sightseeing tour GT3 style.....

    Cheers

    Sean
