How much for a brand new 3.8l 355hp 911 engine?

Heres my tought...im looking to buy a brand new 987 non-s and put a 911 cS engine in it...i think this swap would be pretty straight forward...what do you all think? A 2850ibs 355hp machine doesnt sounds too bad to me!!! Im sure the 3.8 doesnt cost much more than the 2.7 engine to produce anyways...its marketing as it does not make any sence to pay 40k more for a 911 and end up with a slower car!right? I prefer roadster than convertable anyways

Re: How much for a brand new 3.8l 355hp 911 engine?

its not making any sense IMO...

just either go for the 997CAB or 987..

I think its because of people like you that porsche is the biggest profit maker in the auto business...IM NOT letting porsche tell me what to drive...i whant a boxster, i dont whant a carrera...for many reasons; price being only one (engine location etc...)...but i whant the power of the incredible 3.8 which is about the same size!!!...i wonder how a man like you can buy a porsche with such low imagination sorry if this looks rude; see i didnt ask about resale value etc...

Re: How much for a brand new 3.8l 355hp 911 engine?

I remember from the 986 days that only the 3.4L engine would be a direct swap with no problem to fit. The 3.6L or above requires some modification, the extent of which is not clear to me.

Anyway, just thought I'd let you know. Don't know if this carries over to the 987 or not. But I understand that once you swap motors, it doesn't make sense to do it for only 15hp, so you have to go all the way.

Aren't there all kinds of heat dissipation problems going to a much bigger engine? Just curious..

I don't think what you are suggesting makes any sense, either. The Boxster is simply not designed for that kind of power.

    I disagree there, T.
I think the Boxster can handle a lot more power than it's been doing so far.
Yesterday I wanted to check up on the 0-200 km/h times for the 986S, and I found out that the Boxter is wider, lower and shorter than the 911.
Furthermore its midship engine makes it even better for wroom-wroom.

Now, you may have a point regarding clutch, suspension etc, but I would think it can handle more than 280 bhp.

Desmo, your idea sounds interesting, however you have to expect quite a few problems with the engine swap. Maybe there will be none, but I have never ever heard of an engine swap or other major tuning that didnt have a load of problems in its wake.
As for the combination of Boxster + bigger engine I like the equasion.
Hell...that's why they built the CGT in the first place, isnt it?

Thanks for the heads up im sure ill run through hundreds of small fitting things; but its part of the fun that makes you appreciate what youve done in the end
And for those who say the boxster 987 cannot do with 355hp or so...you must be kidding me...i dont put a carrera gt v10 in that...only a bigger engine of the exact same configuration to me me enjoy the box a bit more!!!!!!!!!!

Re: How much for a brand new 3.8l 355hp 911 engine?

I reckon it'd probably take the power too. If you're brave enough to do it, let us know how it goes!

I don't think dropping the Carrera S engine in the Boxster would be as simple as one might think.

Re: How much for a brand new 3.8l 355hp 911 engine?

How bout something like this ?

Re: How much for a brand new 3.8l 355hp 911 engine?

Nearly as daft as fitting a Carrera S engine

Re: How much for a brand new 3.8l 355hp 911 engine?

I have 365HP in my 986 and I can assure you it CAN handle that kind of power

Nice!!!Now thats what im talkin about!!!Power and boxster such a nice blend, porsche didnt want it legal hehehehe

Re: How much for a brand new 3.8l 355hp 911 engine?

Might as well get the X51 powerkit for the 3.8L motor - gives 381hp. Costs alot more, but this job will be expensive anyways, so may as well go all the way...

Re: How much for a brand new 3.8l 355hp 911 engine?

Rami, how bout some more pictures of your 986, looks like the full 996 turbo front end treatment! very nice.
