My first gut reaction is that this thing is sooo cool, but then I guess my Vulcan part of my brain has a hard time in looking at high wheel arches, high profile tires with off road tread, metal bumpers, etc in a 911 shape and just gets confused 
I live in a place with good roads, no snow or dirt, etc so this makes no sense here but in a town in northern North America or Europe for example this would stand as Uber cool among the herd of SUV clones on the road. Not as practical obviously, but for those that already have other SUVs, sportscars, etc in their garage already it's a cool addition.

I am very thrilled by this model for various reasons.
First, I was very excited at the time by the Porsche twin wins in the 1980s Paris - Dakar Rallyes and this model brings back memories of that era.
Second, only Porsche could have the courage and technical know how to make a twin character sports car of this specification which, as I am sure will be superb to drive both on and off road. Porsche will start a trend with this car like they did with the Cayenne and others will try to follow suit.
Third, it will give the opportunity to 911 enthusiasts in snowy or rough road areas to enjoy their favourite sports car more. I am sure Porsche will set a time on the NBR in the snow and start a new lap times contest.
As regards the styling, I am not very happy especially at the back. The car also seems rather colour sensitive.
IMO the style and stance of the 992 of the Chile volcano ascent is more attractive.

Your ignorance is showing Nick, Cayennes are worthless off road. We've discussed this before. They are soccer mommy cars, not off road rigs, speaking from experience.

Yeah it's PDK only. Many of the cool features of the pre-production versions that scaled the volcano were lost on the production model (including the manual gearbox).

Modern manual boxes are so good, they might as well be a PDK box, the only difference being an extra clutch pedal, which one can mimic by using the left leg to air press an imaginary clutch pedal while clicking the shift pedals.
Also, the shifter is so precise, there is no chance of missing a shift into the wrong gate, not unlike clicking left pedal for downshifts and right pedal for upshifts.
Heck, even the gas and brake pedals are aligned properly for heel and toe, even when it's not really needed anymore with rev match function.
To properly enjoy a manual box, one need to have the clutch pedal comes out the wrong side on the floor, with gas and brake pedals not aligned for proper heel and toe and a rubbery shift gate where every time one shifts, one has to wonder is that the correct gate or not. Perfecting all of the above is what give satisfaction on driving a manual. Nothing less.
