    Whoopsy:

With the stickiest street rubber available, and in one of the fastest cornering road car, with a master at the wheels, it's only entering Copse at ~180km/hr, and F1 cars casually do it above 300km/hr.

One needs a team to operate and costs millions of $$ to run, the other has plate and license and can drive Madam to the nearest Starbucks...

What is mind blowing is more downforce than a Senna without looking different than a bloated 911...impressive.Smiley

    An impressive car !

Not sure if these buttons will drive you crazy or give you lots of fun ? !!

And with all this downforce I am wondering how much it will affect tire life ?

After listening to a few of the reviews, I get the feeling they would like more power for this chassis.

Most likely on the way (GT2 RS), but I think I would be very content with this power level.

GT2 could indeed be on the way..... I think the car was planed to get a 4.2 engine and that it did not work out for some reason (reliability or not matching emissions goals) so they had to stick with the 4.0 which is at it's max power.

I would be happy with this car... and 30HP more :-)

Interesting - I did not hear that there was a problem with the 4.2L.  I assumed it was intentionally being held for the 911ST or some other special model before being added to the 992.2 GT3.

Just a wild guess from my part as It seemed the 4.2 was been tested and bringing out a new GT3 RS, with a new platform and keeping nearly the same engine is  taking half a step, specially that it is very clear from the different tests that the car can handle a lot more power.

Probably the .2 with have the upgraded engine. But I am wondering if by 2025 or 2026 it will not have to be a hybrid.

I guess on shorter tracks where power isn't as big of a factor it will shine, but that's pretty disappointing.

I think, you have to add almost 5s, due to the new Ring configuration, which means 12s difference.
This GT3 RS is only 1s slower than the mighty AMG BS and that on a very windy day of attempts! Don’t find it disappointing. I think it’s master work with gazillion of HP deficits….

The old one was on a shorter lap and time was 6:54.340.  Add about 5 seconds for the new longer 20.8km full lap (so right around 7 minutes or 11 seconds faster for the new one).

You can look up the old 20.6 km lap and new 20.8 km lap times here:

No, I think it was 17 seconds (aided by the first time GT3 used Cup R tires)

Thanks Grant. I don't feel like it lived up to the hype. Reviewers were gobsmacked by the performance of this car, and it didn't translate. I was hoping for a low 6:40, like 6:42 or so. Oh well. Smiley

    Re: OFFICIAL: Porsche 911 (992) GT3 RS - 2022

The car is only a 500hp class car, it can only go so fast, on street tires.

But it's a great improvement for a 500hp to be quicker than a 887hp 918 in less than 10 years.

I haven't driven one, but I can only imagine it's not how fast one gets to the end, but the process of getting there, the feedback, the control, and the experience.

The time roughly translate to a 6:44ish lap on the old configuration, and that's a good 11 seconds cleared of the Manthey tuned 992 GT3. And just about the same time as a Manthey tuned 991 GT2RS with an extra 200hp can do accounting for the configuration change.

It is all about downforce now...and not pure horse power. the proposed power is fully used and more than enough, proof is obvious, it is as fast as several more powerful cars...still amazing when you think that this 911 as more downforce than dramatic Senna.

HP is a great cheap crutch for car companies selling "performance", stretching the envelope from chassis and aero development is what separates the men from the boys.

    Re: OFFICIAL: Porsche 911 (992) GT3 RS - 2022

The Ring has 3 long full speed  stretches that are about 1km, 2 km and 2.5 km. The middle one being on top of that uphill. With the same power as the 991.2 RS, this 992 RS manages a gain of 11 seconds, all in the corners.

And then comparing it to the time the  +700 HP monsters do, shows how good this car has been tuned.

Also the day of the test, there were strong head winds. It is no secret Porsche hoped to shave off a few more seconds, but it looks like they are happy enough with this result. Will make it easier for the 992.2 to do better

The difference on F1 type tracks will probably show much better the improvement.

I wonder if this 992 RS is easier for '' gentlemen drivers'' to take to the limits , then the 991.2 ?

A car can be very fast in the hands of a pro, but then for normal drivers, impossible to drive fast.

Making a car that is that fast and that  can be taken near it's limits for a normal driver would be something.

Many of the  Porsche GT3 RS hard core Ring drivers, say they are faster with the 991.1 GT3 RS then with the 991.2 GT3 RS as this last one was more difficult to drive very fast. Only Pro manage to.

That is what I wonder. If the car can't be driven properly by amateurs then it is a waist.

But maybe amateurs can extract some of that down force ? Driving the 991.2 to it's full potential is very difficult, you need to be a pro or close to one.  The 991.1 was easier due to it's more complying/softer chassis.

I did one a course where we drove Formula Renault for a full day. At first it was very difficult to drive these things, as I was going too slowly into corners, ending with loads of understeer, the car moving in all directions. But when I got more used to it and trusted the aerodynamics ,taking much more speed into corners, the car became like glued to the track and much easier to drive.

Maybe with the 992 GT3 RS, it will be about having the balls to keep more speed to have the downforce working. But, opposed to the the rented Formulas' , pushing one's expensive car takes the balls to another level Smiley

    Re: OFFICIAL: Porsche 911 (992) GT3 RS - 2022

Well that's the danger of making a sizeable leap in performance.

It's a good step up from street tires to slicks, for someone that's used to street tire grip, it's a leap of faith initially to trust the car can turn in that much faster, but that step is gradual, one can slowly work up to that limit.

But aero grip works a bit differently. There is a no man's land in the middle of that jump, it goes from like 100% -> 80% -> 125% grip for example. Most amateurs will be unable to make that big of a jump, and for some that tried, they won't be able to control the car and crash, plain and simple.

For seasoned drivers, they can likely jumped up to 130% and realized that's a bit too much and back off and save the car and dial down the next time around to find that limit.

I reckoned it will be even harder for the average driver to extra the max from the new GT3RS. Even with all the newfound suspension adjustments. Most wouldn't even know where to start outside of the basics, i.e. softening one end to give it more grip and vice versa, but even that might proof to be a challenge as the car have separate compression and rebound adjustments.

Way too complicated for me. But I’m just happy that Porsche continues to focus on fine engineering and performance.  That, beneath it all, is the essence of the brand.

The car will be as easy to drive ''slowly '' as was the 991 and feel pretty normal at road legal speeds. Only when pushed hard on track will it be different and ''difficult''.

On the road the difference will be mainly the much harder ride due to the stiffer springs . Too stiff maybe ? We have to wait for the road reviews to find that out.

    Re: OFFICIAL: Porsche 911 (992) GT3 RS - 2022

Porsche achieved its goal of creating a track car that can be driven, and not trailered, to the track. If one is looking for a performance car with near everyday driveability, the GT3 or GTS remains that option.  This car is more than impressive.
