So the FIA changed course, and won't release the certificates today and will do so on Monday, after the Japanese GP.

    Makes you wonder why.

Some conspiracy theorists already mentioning that FIA did that in order not to embarrass Red Bull Honda on Honda's home GP weekend.

Me? I think it's because they haven't finished the background negotiations yet.

    Re: [2022] Formula 1

So it would seems Red Bull has successfully lobbied their extra $12mil of spending isn't part of the budget cap spending, but in fact was part of 'powertrain' spending, with the extra wind tunnel time and R&D on floor development grouped into the powertrain side spending. But they still ended up with $150,000 over.

Which results in the FIA levying a $25,000 fine.

With this, the FIA is able to escape the space between the rock and a hard place with a minor scratch.

Aston Martin, however, is over by $4mil. They will get 50 points deducted from their 2021 result, which, conveniently, doesn't drop them behind Williams, so they will get to keep 7th place and the price money. They will also face another 50 point deduction for the 2022 season, which, at this moment in time, will drop them to negative points territory, putting them solidly last in the standing. On top, they will also get a $100,000 fine and 10% of their testing time deducted for 2023.

FIA press release Monday should be able to confirm all points.

    Re: [2022] Formula 1

In another F1 news, Red Bull is set to announce the signing of de Vries to the Alpha Tauri seat, releasing Gasly and an Alpine announcement should follow after.

Guessing Horner can't get enough of Toto yet as it would seems Toto is still de Vries' manager/agent as of this moment.

It's only nature to let de Vries get a ride somewhere as Mercedes don't have a empty one there, very unlike Alpine's treatment of stringing Piastri along with no end in sight. And Rossi is still bitter about it and that they, Alpine, are faultless and all fault lies with Piastri.

Since Gasly isn't quite welcomed at Alpine by Ocon, this lead to another interesting point. Could Ocon, after finishing up his contract at Alpine in 2024, go back to Mercedes and drive for them? it is understood that he has maintained ties to Mercedes all these years. By 2024 Hamilton should be gone for good and a seat will open up for sure.

    Re: [2022] Formula 1

If Piastri is as good as some think he is Mercedes may want to snap him up from 2024/25 onwards.

What is the duration of the McLaren contract?

My wish for Suzuka, completely rain out the whole weekend.

FIA would have had no choice but to let the drivers go out in full wet.

It will neutralized all performance differences between cars, gonna be Mano a Mano for all drivers. like basically running spec cars for the whole field.

Verstappen is well regarded as one of the premier car control guru in the field, I wanted to see a few, not just one, Brazil 2016 saves from him on his way to his 2nd WDC. I don't believe anyone in the current drivers lineup, including Hamilton, could have safe that car back then.

Let Max show off his skills while securing his first clean and 2nd WDC title.

So are we gonna have another Spa 2021?

    Or are they gonna race?

They have extreme wet tires for a reason, like right now.

If a driver feels 'unsafe', no one is stopping them from staying in the pit lane and not go out

The Japanese fans, after 2 years of missing F1, paid to be there to watch a race.

If no points are awarded this race, Verstappen will automatically be WDC. 104 pts gap with 104 points up for grab in the remaining 4 races but Verstappen holds the tie breaker.

Christian Horner is himself again, speaking full of shit. No one forced him to give inters to his drivers, Pirelli and FIA developed full wet, aka extreme wet for a reason, for this kind of condition.

If he feels so unsafe for his drivers, pull them into the garage and retires.

Oops. forgot about the Sprint at Brazil, another 8 points there. But is Leclerc gonna win everything to the end and Verstappen retires every race til the end? No.

    Re: [2022] Formula 1

Hmm, will be a bit surprised if the stewards give anything against Leclerc, that's exactly how Verstappen does it all of last year.

Will the stewards wanted to end the championship right there with a penalty against Leclerc?

Boy aren't the Red Bull a class of their own, Lecelrc drove his ass off and still can't stay with Verstappen but Perez literally just comes out of no where to get close to Leclerc.

Ocon, GREAT defence against Hamilton to come home in 4th.

Oh damn, quick decision by stewards. 5 seconds for Leclerc. handing the WDC to Verstapppen. Now where was those quick decisions last weekend at Singapore? OR anywhere else?

Well done Max, you have actually earned this one. Your 2nd. Now you equal to Alonso.

    Re: [2022] Formula 1

Yeah no, it is impressive for Max to take advantage of the superior Red Bull car to cruise to a WDC this year, not unlike the Schumacher years, Alonso years, Vettel years, and Hamilton years. Very unlike last year where he almost threw away the superior Red Bull car until force majeure intervened and gifted him the WDC.

We knew he was gonna be the real deal, but last year he gave us doubt about his composure when under pressure but this year he silenced all doubters.

He really earned this one for real.

But about Newey, looking back, it's more impressive about Mercedes' 7 in a row WITHOUT Newey. They did aced the initial hybrid formula but they survived the next rules change still. Ferrari was so closed to taking that away.

But there is no doubt about Newey seeing things that shouldn't be there within the rules. F1 gonna be so different without him. Red Bull is so lucky to be able to claimed him as their own.

    Re: [2022] Formula 1

According to some commentators reading the rule book, points given today should not be 25 to the first one, but 19 as race was less then 50 laps or 75% .... yes

That would not give WC to Max today.

Before the start of the Japanese GP, they were 104 points apart.

There is a maximum of 25x4, for 4 race wins, 1x4 for 4 fastest lap, and 8 points for the sprint for a total of 112 points on the table after the Japanese GP.

If they do the 19-14-12 column 3 points schedule for 25%-75% then yes, Max would only be 111 points leaving Japan.

But unfortunately the race is considered finished even with only running 28 laps as the checkered flag waved. The rule says those points schedule columns only applied if a race is 'suspended'

    Screen Shot 2022-10-09 at 10.23.24 AM.png

The Japanese GP isn't considered suspended, heck, even Spa 2021 wasn't considered suspended.

Weird wording and applications I know. But that's how they had intended the rules to be.

The red flag after lap 1 means the race was suspended according the the rules. But they 'resumed' the racing for 28 laps until the time limit kicks in, and with the waving of the checkered flag, the race is considered finished an completed, hence full points is awarded.

The only way it would be considered suspended would be after the initial red flag, they never got a chance to go back out and resume. But then that would be falling under 6.5-a, less than 2 laps completed so no points.

Had they started the race, ran for 28 laps and then got red flagged and unable to resume, then and only then would the alternate points columns comes into play.

    Re: [2022] Formula 1

That wasn't the intent of the rule change sine Spa 2021. But the wording was the problem and all 10 teams and all their personal did not catch that for the longest time until it was applied yesterday. Unbelievable but true.

The intent was to award lower points for less laps completed. Which was the point for changing in the first place. Looks like the teams will get FIA to change it again for 2023.

Weird coincident, Verstappen benefitted from it 2 years in a row on his way to to 2 championships. Had no points been awarded for Spa 2021, he wouldn't have enough to win, had less points been awarded in Japan, he will need to wait for the next race before clinching.

    Re: [2022] Formula 1

That double stack pit for inters by RB was righteous.

    Re: [2022] Formula 1

Highlight of the race weekend, it's not Max winning the WDC, it's not Ocon's great defence from Hamilton, nor was it Vettel vs Alonso, or Leclerc over cooked it in the last chicane.

It is Mick Schumacher leading a GP!!!

For the shortest moment, he was P1 across the line before Verstappen swiftly passed him.
