I knew that such questions will arise sooner or later, this is why I always have the following recomendation for those who are in the process of buying a new or used Boxster:
go for the most powerful engine and don't order too many options (with the exception of full leather which is a must on a Cab/Roadster). Why? Because you can easily retrofit most options but NOT the more powerful engine.
I'm afraid you don't have many options to tune a 2.7 engine without risking the warranty or a major engine failure sooner or later. Rule number one: never ever do a chip tuning (ECU mod) on a normally aspirated car, this doesn't provide too much additional power but substantially increases engine stress. Rule number two: any power increase below 20 HP will be hardly felt.
If money is no issue for you, you could go for a "real" tuning with changing engine internals like camshafts, pistons, etc. but I suppose selling your current car and going for a new Boxster S would probably cost the same.
There are also some turbo/supercharger upgrades available but again, the same advise: stay away from this stuff, especially if you're making usage of this extra power all the time.

The new 987 interior is finally up to the mark without paying for full leather.
If you want more power its cheaper to PX against a 987S, than dicking around with a 2.7.
