A Boxster coupe is a good idea,but its execution is tepid.
Front end side grilles use the same design cues - small round auxilary lights, set into the grilles identically as the Phaeton, Passat and Beetle.
The hatchback sails do a poor camo job of disguising the different angles of its glass and its lower portion, and
those different angles are the weakest visuals on the car.
The Caymans optional rear wiper looks like it was grabbed from a Ford parts bin, unlike previous models that seemed
strikingly purposeful, aka 928 and early 911's.
The exhaust outlet is tarty looking piece that is styled for styles sake. Two large upswept round tips would have looked a lot more sporting and less boringly passive.
The rear spoiler looks good, so good that it almost seems out of place on the Cayman.
The Cayman lacks its own interior identity, its just Boxster
redeux. Porsche should have added something unique, be it a seperate gauge cluster, different shape HVAC outlets and rear console portion, different gearshift knob, just somethings to give the Cayman its own special look inside.
For its model name and price, its not as aggresive looking outside as it should be. Maybe thats why Audi TT owners will flock to it and perhaps Porsches marketing people thought of that also.
At its stated price point, wich is a factory admitted marketing experiment, its so close with a few options to
a base 997, that it would seem ridiculous to not get a 997
Coupe, instead of a Cayman with PASM, Leather, Bose and Xenons.
Porsche pricing versus cost of goods is bold. It doesnt cost them much more to build a 997 compared to a Boxster, and the Cayman will let them market Boxster coupes at near 911 prices.

Well, everyone has their own perceptions but I just cannot see the Cayman as "tepid" in any way. I think the car is a knockout. 
The styling is just fantastic, the best Porsche has done to date. I see this vehicle as being completely on target and I think Porsche has done an incredible job with it. It will be a great success for Porsche.
Oh! and BTW, those wheels, the base wheels ... just too cool! I love those wheels! The best they have done.

I have almost the same view from outside my window here. Still can't believe that all of these night pics were taken at my door step yet I didn't know about it! It's in Melbourne Australia for those of you who don't know. Some are even taken at Albert Park, the same public roads used for the F1 GP. However from the pic I can tell it is going in the opposite direction to the F1 cars.
