I think Touring option should come with 5-lug wheels...

    Re: 991.2 GT3 Thread Closed

The success of the R logically leads to a "touring" GT3 variant w/o the carbon fiber and magnesium roof, and w/o the wing but a rear diffuser in its place.  I expect no rear seats and center locks for the wheels as well.  I suspect both PDK and MT will be options for both track and touring models.  The car can be called GT3R w/o diminishing the 911R (if that's possible) or the GT3.

    Re: 991.2 GT3 Thread Closed

GT3R is already taken by the race car.

They could just call it 911 Touring. Or 911GT. Or GT3 Weich.

Actually I think the most appropriate name would be 911 Touring. Regular 911 body, with a GT3 engine, back seat, sunroof, no wing, manual or idk, normal sports suspension, also make it with a convertible version and a Targa version.

    Re: 991.2 GT3 Thread Closed

Imo, making touring GT3 doesn’t make sense. They just have to produce it instead of the GTS and that’s all. If they keep both models will hurt the GT3 range, imv…

Which means they would need to scrap the current cash cow to slap on some options on an S, add 10HP and a sell it with its own badge to "distinguish" it from a normal S? Smiley

Nah, I see a clear difference between the current GTS and a potential GT3 touring. There is space for both and buyers for both.

100% agreed, Touring option should include 5-lug wheels! Of course, it was also a decision they sensibly took for the GT4...

    ALDO:

    Hi guys,

I am not sure if this is public, the 991.2 GT 3 will get a so called touring option . That means wing delete, not sure about rear seats.

The wing delete option (not a free option!!!) is pretty much sure but you are right, apparently someone at Porsche is against offering rear seats in the GT3. I hope they reconsider.

    Re: 991.2 GT3 Thread Closed

If all that's involved is "wing delete" then they don't need to call it anything other than GT3.

    Re: 991.2 GT3 Thread Closed

Wing delete not a free option is understandable, because I think you will then also get a different diffusor and maybe more changes to ashure that the car is stable at 320kph.

    Re: 991.2 GT3 Thread Closed

The team in Weissach understand that the "Touring package" needs to include more than just rear wing delete and diffuser, so the inclusion of rear seats will help differentiate the GT3 Touring from other models. It will also help to broaden the GT/RS family, which will also include the GT2 RS / RSR (mid-engined homologation) and the GT4 RS... along with GT and RS versions of the Porsche 960 Coupe!

    Re: 991.2 GT3 Thread Closed

If they are going to broaden the GT3 line, they should go all the way and release a GT3 Touring Convertible (or use the opportunity to launch an exclusive Speedster and charge more money for it)

My next Porsche will be a "960"...if they put the right engine and emotions into this car.

I could imagine getting the next 911 generation as well if the car is interesting enough but this remains to be seen.

The R8 ticked all the right boxes, like never before, so I it is going to be difficult to replace it with a Porsche. None of the current models would make me want to switch, maybe with the exception of the 918 but this car is in a completely different price and performance class. The new 991 GT2 RS won't have AWD, so it is excluded for me.

I fully understand that - the Sound/fun-factor of a V10 is x times greater ! I love the scream of the GT3/RS's but a modern big displacement NA mid-engined car has clearly it's qualities

    Re: 991.2 GT3 Thread Closed

If I could choose three cars right now, I would get the Huracan, the Aventador SV and the 675LT.

These cars fascinate me most right now, can't help it. The 675LT is in this list because it comes close to hypercars in performance, close to race cars in chassis/drive feel and still has an "acceptable" sound, making it an interesting combo.

If I'd do a lot of track racing, I would get the (hopefully) upcoming 991.2 GT3 RS.

The upcoming 991 GT2 RS could also be an interesting track machine but a powerful bi-turbo charged engine and RWD? I don't know... For very skilled drivers maybe an interesting product but for casual track fun, the GT3 RS is certainly the more "satisfying" and forgiving machine in my opinion.

It took me some time to learn that being the fastest isn't equal to getting the most fun of out of a car. I enjoy my R8 even in the city(!), while I could enjoy my former 991.1 Turbo S mostly on the Autobahn or on the track (simply because it was fast like hell and easy to control).

There are many nice sportscars out there on the market but only a few which are real fun, even on public roads.

I would not be too concerned: the 997 GT2RS was quite Ok to drive fast. These 911 have great traction and stability despite RWD Smiley
