Touareg Diesel is coming to US!
From The Car Connection
Now this is an impressive vehicle I think. It is reported to get 25 miles to the gallon of diesel and have over 500 foot pounds of torque. I believe I have seen Weideking quoted as saying there would be no diesels in the Cayenne's future and I do see his point. But, still, a potent diesel like this could be an interesting option on the Cayenne and I think it would sell.

A Diesel for VW?
VW confirms it will bring a diesel version of the Touareg to the U.S. market during the first quarter of next year, powered by the V-10 TDI already in hot demand in Europe. Volkswagen of America is trying to counter recent trends by putting a heavy push on diesels, and the campaign is scoring with consumers, diesel sales jumping from 23,646 in 2002 up to 31,220 last year, when sales were damped by availability issues -- a problem that might come with the V-10 diesel, too. "I think you will see us get aggressive behind the diesel," says marketing and sales director Frank Maguire. At current rates, diesels could account for somewhere between 15 to 20 percent of total VW brand sales this year, perhaps topping the 60,000 mark. - Paul Eisenstein
