    A day with a 997S cabrio

    Hello to everybody,

Today I could test a 997S cabrio from my dealer.....they are being good to me in the agony of waiting for my coupé until july.....

I'm not expirienced with cabrios, but the fact is that I have been very surprised with this creature.

I was expecting a sort of sensation of "non confideence" if pushing a bit the car to the limit, due it's condition of "cabrio".

    Nothing further from reallity.....

The car gave me a very confident sensation in any case.

In the highway and in the very twisted and complicated roads in "La Costa Brava". In some moments I really pushed the car, and, despite "open", I felt as confident as in a coupé.

Perfectly isolated from the exterior even having the "open" sensation. A bit difficult to describe!

Just my 2 cents: The 997S is, maybe a bit short in HP, but shurely an absolute machine of precission.

In it's cabrio version and with a non used to it's sensations driver such as me, it gives a lot of confidence going pretty fast in really very twisted and narrow roads.... It negotiates curves in a such efficient way!

The "unit" was equipped with the Bose sound system....please excuse me, but I did not like the sound in general (maybe due to the radio signal???), in spite I tryied hard to balance it properly.

In any case, a fantastic expirience....Can't imagine how it will be with the -20mm, PSE, PCCB.......very difficult to wait....

Thanks Porsche and my dealer to give me the opportunity of having such a nice day, and you for reading my comments (I'm a very bad reporter!)

.....the problem is...I'm seriously considering an "extra" Boxter (This is economical ruin!)! I also love since today the "open air"!

    Re: A day with a 997S cabrio

Thanks for the short review. I'm afraid the 20 mm chassis isn't available for the Cab.

    Re: A day with a 997S cabrio

Thank you RC (And, by the way, for all the light you -and other members here- spread to this Porsche lovers community.

I ordered a 977S coupé. Please excuse me if my words where not clear. The "thing" is that now I would also love a cabrio! (my dealer knows pretty well how to sell).

This desire will not change my mind. I prefer a coupé for many reasons (mainly performancewise ones)....but......maybe.....in a -hopefully- near future....a Boxter can add extra "happyness" (when the wallet can allow it)

In any case, my girlfriend has already the "open air" poisson in her veins, and I'm egoisticly "pushing" her!

    Re: A day with a 997S cabrio

That was nice of the dealer, Tte problem now is that the "test" will make the wait seem even longer Don't worry July is around the corner
My dealer has arranged a track day for some of its customers and turns out its a day that now its imposible for me to go oh, well maybe next time.

    Thanks for sharing your impressions

PS: if you are using photoshop I could show you how to disguise the licence plates very easily... I expect lots of pics of the coupe when it arrives in July with the beautiful scenery of the Costa Brava in the backround Just PM me if you need any help, I'll be glad to help.

    Re: A day with a 997S cabrio

Yes Carlos, waiting Is so, so hard!

Thank you very much for your help, and please excuse me for my "photoshop disasters". I already PM'd.

In any case, the 997S makes me feel so confident at "objective" amazing chronos -even compared to few years ago rally cars- in very well known roads for me (The few times I've been able to test it), that I feel I need to recycle in a specific 997S course.....can't guess at the moment where is the limit in this twisted and narrow roads.....but, for shure, very very far.

I promiss photos of my new love as soon as I'll get her!

    Thanks again!

    Re: A day with a 997S cabrio

Hi byron! congrats your your purchase of a 911 I know what you mean when you say "it's a feeling you can't describe" with the top down! My love for open-air is greater than my love for performance, which is why i got the Cab instead of the coupe. I just wish we had such beautiful coastal roade to drive them on like you and Carlos But the closest I can get is probably in december when i got down to Cape Town :/

    Re: A day with a 997S cabrio

    RC,

you told us once that you were about to test drive the 997S Cab, did it happen and what is your opinion ?

    It's called BOXSTER...

    Re: A day with a 997S cabrio

Hi Byron, that cab in Seal Grey looks great. Been wanting to take one for a drive, but my dealer has no demos, and all presold for months!! I imagine a cab with especially with PSE would sound fantastic!!

    Re: A day with a 997S cabrio

Dear guys, finally someone willing to confirm that a 997S cabrio is not a boulevardcruiser but a real "driversmachine",
I drove mine at francorchamps, last weekens and I can tell you, as a non-racingdriver, you don,'t need a "stiffer" coupe to go hard. When you drive a lot on a circuit you should prefer the coupe with PCCB and -20mm suspension, otherwise go for 2 cars in one: a sunbed when you want it , a racecar, without roof, by pressing the sportchronobutton (schumi's ferrari is also a cabrio... )!You get the eargasm for free...
    Go for the cabrio...!

    Re: A day with a 997S cabrio

another pic, the car aside is a sportec 993tt with 460bhp.
On the way back home on the narrow roads and curves of the ardennes, my 997S could easily catch up with the turbo...
Only when going flatout on the highway the turbo could use its fenomenal power and torque.
The suspension of the 997 is really 2 steps forward, I think the suspension makes the biggest difference compared too my former 996 cabriolet

    Re: A day with a 997S cabrio

thanks for the input beltar! I've driven the coupe and the cab, but as you said the differences to me being a "normal" driver i can't feel those small tiny differences

    Re: A day with a 997S cabrio

I drove together with my brother a 996 during the FUN series last weekend at Francorchamps. The 997 just went through the curves like a knife through butter. Just fantastic; really hard to catch up.

    Re: A day with a 997S cabrio

    Byron,

I'd say your upcoming car is even miles ahead of the 997 Convertible, due to your performance-enhancing options and lower weight. Just as a side info, a car with your specs laps the Hockenheim Short Circuit almost three seconds faster than this convertible and all with an astonishing handling! I'd say this says something...

    Re: A day with a 997S cabrio

I'm a big fan of cabs, but in response to the comment about your girlfriend liking open air motoring, in my experience, girls like the idea of a cab, but in reality, they don't ever want the roof down because it messes up their hair! Not a problem for me as I don't have any hair....

not a problem for my wife since we are both hairdressers

    Re: A day with a 997S cabrio

Very nice to see those two awesome black machines side-by-side!

    Great pics, beltar!
