    Re: OFFICIAL: Porsche 911 (992) GT3 RS - 2022

That video was interesting. Different kind of footage then the western ones we are used to. Nice technical explanations.

The guys does talk a bit too fast for me indecision

991.1 and 991.2 GT3 RS prices are rising here.  There is a big demand for them. Don't know exactly if it is because people don't want the 992 GT3 RS  because it is ''too much for a road car'' or because it is difficult to get, or because of it's high price.

991.1 GT3 RS are selling for true 20k higher then when I sold my car in 2018

The 991.2 GT3 RS stays a very attractive car. It's look will also date very well.

    Re: OFFICIAL: Porsche 911 (992) GT3 RS - 2022

    nberry:

I presently own a 991.2 GT3 RS very similar to the one in the video.

I consider myself an average driver who loves those moments when I can exercise my car in situations other than track venues. I love my RS and it provides me with the entertainment I seek in owning a high performance car. It makes me a better driver because of the limits it's capable of.

I know the 992GT3RS is a superior car especially in a track environment assuming the track is long enough to accommodate the speeds required to initiate the downforce the 992RS can deliver. Additionally, the 992RS requires considerable driving skills in utilizing the downforce to maximize its performance. I don't have those skills.

With all that said, I would consider by the car if it was sold to me at MSRP. I would view it as an investment that challenges me. Sadly, my dealer is asking $150,000 over MSRP. Given my limitations, it would be a foolish expenditure of money.Smiley

    Makes sense Nick.

I was just curious as this track does not really seem to offer the advantages of the 992, as you mention yourself. I drove the 992 for a very short trip, and I can say that coming from my 991.2 GT3, the steering is a massive upgrade. I also noticed that the engine revs more free, but that might be down to me being excited. I would say that the settings on the wheel is a bit of an overkill unless if you track the car, and even then it might be an overkill for the majority. I see plenty of people who are just having fun in GT cars, and are less concerned with laptimes. I had a Porsche engineer to explain most of it to me, and for those who wants to go into the details and track the car, there are certainly advantages and tricks to be used.

All in all a fantastic car, I wish I could afford one and get one. My understanding is that it will not help at all to buy a Taycan here in Dubai...you need to be "much" higher op the hierarchy to have a chance.

Keep your 991 GT3 RS, get a used SL63 for that money and be happy. Smiley Smiley
Seriously: Do NOT pay 150k over MSRP for a car, this is insane. I would probably pay 5-10k...maybe.
Never ever paid over MSRP for a car and will never do. I paid 10k over MSRP for my Nautilus and sold it at a nice profit (way beyond what would have been possible lately though) but for a car? NEVER EVER. Unless I'd be super rich and want a specific car and really WANT it. Smiley

I think that's a reasonable reaction.  I think you would enjoy having a new RS (new warranty and improvements in the car), but the financial difference is not reasonable.  The MSRP has increased enough on its own (and you are apparently willing to spend that amount).  However, any amount on top of that (especially $150k more than the difference) makes the whole transaction unpalatable, even if you can afford it.

It is a track machine indeed but driving it on curvy country roads can be a lot of fun as well, this car just has that special feel not many cars have left, it is difficult to describe. Reminded me a lot of my Performante in many ways, kind of raw when you want it to be that way and quite comfy if wanted (settings). Unique product right now in my opinion.

I still would get a GT3 Touring instead for various reasons (practicality, less in your face look, etc.) but the 992 GT3 RS is just...WOW.

Nick - Walter said he enjoys driving on curvy roads more these days, but he never said anything about driving a modern GT3 RS on curvy roads.  I'm guessing his choice is a vintage air-cooled or older manual gearbox water-cooled car for that task (based on preferences he has expressed before).

Grant, he did not confined his remarks to certain cars. He was stating that he now enjoys curvy roads more than track events. Of course, the reasons for doing so is obvious. Because of age his reactions are slower. However, they do not prevent him from enjoying cars in the appropriate venues. Smiley

Andy will say in public whatever Porsche wants him to say, he is the main marketing guy for new GT models. Walter Rohrl is another talking head for Porsche in the same vein. They had to help Porsche create 'buzz'. Take whatever they says in public with a pinch of salt.

All Porsche people enjoys driving public roads more, hills in the black forest or the Alps or somewhere else. Track driving to them is basically work. Obvious isn't it? Their work is to develop cars on test tracks, on their off days, they most definitely don't want to be on a track.

    Re: OFFICIAL: Porsche 911 (992) GT3 RS - 2022

So the condensed version says the GT4RS is the best non-track car there is. It's not meant for the track yet it's only 3 seconds off the GT3RS, which is also 3 seconds off a Cup car. A lot cheaper too.

GT3RS is faster than the GT4RS on track but not as fast as the Cup car, so it is the car that's stuck in no man's land

And no, I haven't taken delivery yet, will be a while as the driver side front wheel was damaged during transport and a claim has been filed with Porsche, so waiting on that.

And yes, it's not black. It's bright yellow. and it's not a Weissach either.

It's crappy cold and wet December now, it's going to be skating on ice with those tires so it will be like at least March if not April that I can stretch the legs on my favorite road, mandatory winter tire till March 31st on that road anyways.

And no not dealer spec, I spec it this way. Long story but the short version is that I am with a new dealer that's much closer to home, it's a joint venture from the 2 big dealer chains I frequent. The sales manager insisted on charging 6k ADM which they called 'performance pacakge' that put nothing on the car, so I in turn took out the 40k Weissach package from my build, chopping their profit by 8k (dealers have a 20% profit margin on car options, vs 12% on the base MSRP).  Sales manager was mad and became rude. I told him I know your owner and I am going let him know what happened in this office and he was like calling my 'bluff' and said go ahead. And he can't cancel my order either because it's a 918 VIP order which Porsche Canada already was informed of.

The following week said sales manager was fired, the GM called and asked for a face to face to reset relationship. And the order lock date was passed so I can't add the Weissach back. I placed my Dakar order with them after that and the line item 'performance package' magically disappeared. These 2 cars were built less than a month apart, but I had the 3RS shipped over while picking up the Dakar at Zuffenhausen in Feb. Pointless to drive the 3RS in winter condition but that condtion is perfect for the Dakar.
