What are our chances to have a 2.7 version of cayman ?

Thats the question im asking myself...what are the chances we see a cayman 2.7 at 4-5k us less than a boxster base? That would attract me like hell; id buy one in a minute...are porsche realising they lose customers selling the cayman s a ridiculous price...at the end theyll make less money...let me tell you...besides that who need 15 more hp for 10k? Wheres the feeling of value here? A good set of headers will produce as much power. Stupid porsche...i think they lost me

Re: What are our chances to have a 2.7 version of cayman ?

It has been reported (rumored?) that there is a 2.7 260HP version floating around out there. But as Porsche has stated there will be no car that will cost less than the Boxster. So while the 2.7 Cayman will most likely be less than the Boxster S.....it won't be less than the base Boxster.

I'm not sure I would like to see a Porsche with a sub-Boxster price....then everyone would have one, aka 350Z, but
I do believe the Cayman is priced too high.

Re: What are our chances to have a 2.7 version of cayman ?

if that is true they are messing with us. Ill buy a boxster base and laugh my ass when i see someone stupid enough to buy a cayman.

Re: What are our chances to have a 2.7 version of cayman ?

You're buying the lowest performing Porsche, and laughing at those buying a better car?

Ill laugh only because they are stupid enough to pay more to have less.point made. If you buy this car you tell porsche i dont mind paying more to have les...which i refuse to do; even if i love this car. Look at the 350z; they sell a coupe for 28k and the convertible version is 34k...thats normal...selling a coupe for more than a roadster...you must be crazy

Re: What are our chances to have a 2.7 version of cayman ?

The "10K difference" between a Boxster S and Cayman S is now confirmed to be BS. It is $5,800 (58,900-53,100). We can argue all day long about them charging more for a coupe vs a roadster, but I'd expect the performance difference between the Cayman S and Boxster S to be significant as a result of the many factors discussed here to death.

If one is merely after performance, the premium is definitely worth it in Porsche-dollars.

I am surprised nobody has talked about the torque improvement. Not only does it have 14 more ft-lbs, but it achieves peak torque 400rpm LOWER vs a Boxster. Couple that with a lighter (hopefully) body, and the Cayman S should feel a lot faster than a Boxster S around town.

If you got/want the Boxster S but don't care for the drop-top, the Cayman S is the BEST $5800 you could spend to improve performance. Period.

Yeah, it sucks that porsche is making an even bigger profit on it, but nobody seems to think that when they load up a 997 to over 100K with options. They charge what the market will bear. If they were wrong, dealers will cut you good deals on them soon.

Some would argue you get a lot MORE, not less.

Re: What are our chances to have a 2.7 version of cayman ?

You sound like an intelligent men but my point here is when you have a coupe you have to expect the better performance, rigidity etc...for free, its supposed to be a bonus...and the engine is nothing special...an old part in the bin engine...god the only reason to buy this car is if at LEAST they would be kind enough to put the 3.6 325hp engine in and put the standard engine a 3.8 in the carrera...they are soooooo cheep in my book....pay color crest, color beltetc....they charge for all, too much....im sure i can put 100000$ options in a 911 no kidding

Re: What are our chances to have a 2.7 version of cayman ?

Lots of good points here on both sides.

As I've stated before......I just wish they would have made a great 3.2L 280HP Boxster coupe with a price the same or slightly below the Boxster S. Save the 3.4L for the CS and charge more for it there. If they do come out with a "base" 2.7L Cayman I don't think it will be able to hold its head up with all the other competition out there today. The 3.2L should be the absolute minumum.

Re: What are our chances to have a 2.7 version of cayman ?

The point is, people do BUY the 100K base 997's. Anybody is free to charge whatever they please as long as they are selling it. It remains to be seen if people will pay for the Cayman. I agree, it should cost no more than a Boxster S even WITH the better engine.

But as long as people pay for it, Porsche wont care one bit to lower the price.

Re: What are our chances to have a 2.7 version of cayman ?

Pretty good chances, I'd say...for a less powerful and slightly cheaper version.

Re: What are our chances to have a 2.7 version of cayman ?

To convertible people, this cayman will remain a mystery...why pay more for rigid roof? 15hp? Joke ! I'd go 997...not Cayman.
IMHO, this car is too much of a Boxster, or not enough...

Re: What are our chances to have a 2.7 version of cayman ?

What timescale do we envisage the standard cayman to come out? Does anyone recall how long after the cayenne S and turbo, the standard cayenne came out?

Re: What are our chances to have a 2.7 version of cayman ?

Probably won't take too long and it will be out before a turbo I would guess.
    RC-
Are there any new rumors about a higher performance version of the cayman whatever it may be?
And when you hear some please start a topic on it or mention it, thanks.

Re: What are our chances to have a 2.7 version of cayman ?

Are we 100% sure the cayman s will be the only cayman at launch

People who attended the Porsche forcus group for the Cayman saw two physical cars....one the S, the other believed to be a base with a rumored 2.7L 260HP engine. I will bet money that true to Porsche form the base will come out when interest in the S starts to fall off a bit. So you might not see it for 6-12 months, maybe more.

Or Porsche could do the right thing and bring it out at the same time......but we all know how that goes with this car.

As far a turbo or CS version goes.....I doubt we will see either one soon, if at all. Both are long shots IMO.

Re: What are our chances to have a 2.7 version of cayman ?

My prediction: Porsche won't release a base model until all the "new adopters" have paid full price for the Cayman S. Once this market has slowed, then a less expensive base model will be made available to soak up those that just couldn't part with the fex extra thousand for the S.

As I have said many times regarding this car, either a new Boxster S or a used 996/997 make much more sense to me than any Cayman purchase. I think that if one were thrilled with the Cayman's appearance (not me) and had to have one, the time to buy it would be just before the next model year. By then sales of this car will have probably slowed to the point where there will be significant discounting on 06 models, or at least some upcontenting in the new model year to improve sales/buyer interest.

    Just something to consider.

Re: What are our chances to have a 2.7 version of cayman ?

I agree, buy a Cayman now and sell it within a year while it is still "flavour of the month".
Or wait a year and watch for the discounts when the lesser models appear.
At the moment there are more than enough people around that are prepared to pay top dollar based on the entirely unsubstantiated rumours (that Porsche themselves created) that it beats the base 997 around Nurburgring. (And what if it does? How many buyers go around the 'ring on their daily commute?)
Unfortunately Porsche AG have learned from the politicians that "spin" sells.
