Nick, you could criticize this car for road use, but not for track use, it is the ultimate track car.

Track guys will get it - it's pretty intuitive and the default setting allow for automatic operation - just point and shoot Smiley

Still aesthetically looks very aggressive for road use but it does not look quite as ridiculous as the test mules, the wing is huge but now with everyone uncovered and all the bits visible it doesn't look as bad.

    Re: 992 GT3 RS

Carlos, I was not criticizing the car. I'm trying to understand the market for it. I believe 90% of the driving of this car is road and not track. But yet the car is specifically designed for the track and not road use. With options, taxes and ADM in the US this car will cost around $450,000.

Track junkies can build a car for a lot less. Hell, you can buy a Cup car for much less. What would attract track enthusiast to buy the car for that kind of money?yes

With all that said, I'm sure they will sell out the entire production.

Nberry, I guess he costs of running a cup car is not comparable to tracking a street legal RS.

Full warranty, free Euro Delivery (drive all the best tracks on the continent), don't need truck & trailer to pull a race car nor a place to house them all, sell after a few years for more than paid (if can skip ADM).

In this case, it honestly would be difficult.  But even if you could, it would be hard to ignore things like warranty (I've spent a fortune on engine rebuilds) and resale value when computing total cost of ownership.

$223k is actually quite a reasonable MSRP, given everything included here.

Not if you want it to still be street legal, reliable, safe, etc... this is the best of best of the latest engineering and know-how, you can't just match that by adding some aftermarket parts on older car and for less money too.

The market for this car is trackday aficionados who want the latest and greatest for that, and that is what this is. Those that bought RS in the past for just street driving where never the intended customer, it was never made for them in mind, and neither is this one, and most importantly it will still sell out, so they are not losing anything but they are gaining a better image for their brand with this car.

For those that wasn't the street version they have the amazing package the GT3 offers, or the GT4RS.

The old saying, how fast you wanna go? How much money you can spend?

10k here, 15k there, soon it all adds up. Not to mention teething problems.

Buying one of these means Porsche did all the parts swap and tuning for you, a turn key solution. A car that doesn't break when pushed on track, something that's not a given for a tuned up track car.

Another thing is, money dumped Into a race car does not covert to real dollars when selling. Those money are down the drain.

The new GT3RS is a track car barely disguised as a street car. It's not meant for the street, not for car and coffee. Well it is for C&C for the show off factor.

The integration of the various technologies is almost impossible to duplicate within a reasonable expense, and time framework, unless one is running a race engineering firm.  The aerodynamic work on this car is a staggering achievement and then add the power plant and other systems I really doubt a hobbyist would even come remotely close, especially for the price.

I agree that you could never compete with the high tech solutions.  You'd have to take a simple approach of minimum weight, high power, fixed aero, and large sticky tires.  The result could possibly be faster on some tracks, but the price wouldn't be far less, the safety would be suspect, and the return on investment would be questionable too.  New RS at MSRP is the much better option.

Well it is. if one tracks every day, they could wake up, head to the garage, drive the RS to the track then back. Rinse and repeat.

And if one is a sucker for suffering, they will say I daily my new RS every day just to brag on forums.

ANY Porsche can be daily driven, they do not break down like Ferraris. Creature comfort might have to take a back seat however.

I could brag about me using my 918 every day too, go to Safeway grocery shopping, take my golf clubs and head to my golf club, go to movies and dinner and stuff. But I don't do that, let's say I am too old for that shit haha. I will take my Panamera or Taycan.

I don't think Porsche has ever called an RS in the past 50 years a daily driver.  Not that it couldn't be done - but that was never the goal.

Plus Porsche has a number of 911 variants that are daily drivers including the GT3 which slots more into the place held by the 991.2 GT3 RS.  This is also the technology we will see filter into the Porsche EV sports car to differentiate the Porsche from the more anodyne offering of outrageous acceleration and nothing else.

    Re: 992 GT3 RS

AP : You don't take this car to do mountain roads.

The GT3 RS was never intended to become a boulevard cruiser. The first GT3 RS, 996, was harsh . At the time it was not a car any bought. Only the track drivers. With 997 it got a bit more compliant on the roads because of the suspensions improvement (PASM). With the 991 it became an easy car to drive on the street (PDK and even better PASM) . With the 992 they are back to basics. The GT3 RS is intended for firstly track use. The best they can make for that.  I wonder what will happen with the RS street drivers ?  Still cruising with the 992 down the boulevards ? Or will they give up ?

For the street/track, there are two great choices : The fun GT4 RS, or the more serious GT3

    Re: 992 GT3 RS

A superb effort from Porsche and my compliments to top car guy Andreas Preuninger.

The look of the car is a pleasant surprise compared to the spy photos. In my eyes it looks provocative but stunningly styled and proportioned. It is not like a crude after-market special. This car was designed for the track and it might be a peculiar sight in a city centre. But on a highway or a B road or a mountain pass it won't look out of place.

At 300.000+ EUR very few enthusiasts will be able to afford it and even less will be able to use it as intended. However, listening to the sophistication and ingenuity that went into the design and into a number of the car's components and compared to the prices of some supercars and hypercars I think this RS is worth every euro.

Could the new RS go down to 6:40 at the NBR i.e. beat the 700PS GT2 RS?

With all that elaborate Aero as explained in the videos, that should be the objective.

I don't think it's quite light and/or powerful enough for that.  But it should be very fast.

    Re: 992 GT3 RS

Bearing in mind that the 992 GT3 with the Manthey kit did 6:56, the gap to the 6:43 credited to the GT2 RS might be bridged with the expert use of the various aero, suspension, differential adjustments.

This version of the RS costs a lot more than the "normal" GT3 and customers must be enticed with something spectacular in terms of Nurburgring time.

We will see when temperatures go down in the Nurburgring area. I've read somewhere that the best is dry weather with temperature around 15 °C/60 °F.

Weather has been like that at the Ring much of the summer in the first few hours of the day.  I am worried that the lack of Ring lap time has nothing to do with weather, but more to do with inability to set a good time (maybe trouble with the tires).  A little info here from 3:50 point:
