Re: Finally, my -20mm 997S impressions and review

    GREAT review, Carlos.
I added it to our Road Test section.

Thanks for your work and the beautiful pictures.

Re: Finally, my -20mm 997S impressions and review

    Fantastic write up Carlos!
    Thank you very much!
That's what I thought Re PSE, it doesn't completely shut between 45 and 85 kmh, like you wrote, it does funny DME stuff , like PSE off on acceleration but on on deceleration! Interesting comment Carlos thanks again!
    Great car man!

Re: Finally, my -20mm 997S impressions and review

Unbelievable report man!!! I just found myself thinking that hmmm... maybe I should have paid more attention during the first few days instead of salivating all over it.

Thanks for the review, now I got to get that PSE on mine!!

Re: Finally, my -20mm 997S impressions and review

As expected Carlos, a top draw report, many thanks.

The stock stereo is halfway decent but I ordered it since I will be upgrading the stereo myself, since the Bose is not enough for me. I will use the PCM head unit due to the optic fibre MOST but I will be fitting a amplifier in the trunk, Focal speakers in stock doors and dash locations, and a custom MDF & Fibreglass subwoofer enclosure (sealed type) for two 10" subwoofers behind the rear seats, all covered in matching interior leather so its looks as much stock and discrete as possible. I did the same thing in my 996 and the sound was incredible, whether it's was classical, rock, blues or deephouse music that you were listening to.

Car is beautiful, congratulations. When it comes to the stereo, I am very interested in any additional information you might be willing to share. Are you going to be able to get voice-prompts from the NAV in your spiffy sounding bespoke setup?

Re: Finally, my -20mm 997S impressions and review

    Excellent report Carlos Congrats man!
And thx for the PM btw

Re: Finally, my -20mm 997S impressions and review

Great review Carlos. Thank you. I'm jealous you guys get the -20mm suspension. Wonder if they'll have a similar suspension option for the 997 turbo.

Re: Finally, my -20mm 997S impressions and review

Very well done Carlos thanks .

You need to write columns for car magazines .

Re: Finally, my -20mm 997S impressions and review

    wow, the tire pressure thing is very neat;

i especially like how it tells you when they are warm (and ready to rock and roll)

Wow, I wish we had roads like that here!

Re: Finally, my -20mm 997S impressions and review

So glad you guys liked the review

Men007, I didn't get the NAV, but there shouldn't be any difference since the headunit and all the conections will be the same, only an amplifier is added b/w the speakers and headunit, and the speakes chnaged and adding a sub. I will post pictures when I get it installed.

Re: Finally, my -20mm 997S impressions and review

Good morning Carlos! Enjoyed the reivew, love the photography. The car is looking great too. Now I'm going to bed!

Re: Finally, my -20mm 997S impressions and review

CARLOS, your trip computer showes the same kilometers with your odometer??

My trip computer was showing more miles tha the odometer!!

Re: Finally, my -20mm 997S impressions and review

Carlos, great report, gorgeous car. Big congrats.
Seems we have got similar taste in cars - ordered the same car as yours (except tire pressure thing)

Re: Finally, my -20mm 997S impressions and review

    Carlos ,,

Can you please let me know how hard/easy would you think it is to ground the underneath of the car with the -20mm , ie : Speed Bumps , Down Slopes on entering flats , etc etc

    Thanks in advance...

    throt.

Re: Finally, my -20mm 997S impressions and review

Dilinger, in mine both showed the same, I believe the dealer did a reset on both.

Throt, ground clearance is much better than I expected. I guess it depends on what you are used to, but I'm coming from a 996 with aerokit and the M030 sport suspension and the -20mm has much much better ground clearance. Just today, I had to park in a underground garage that I always had to enter BACKWARDS and at an angle in order to clear the 2 underground levels and to my surprise the -20mm went through FOWARDS and straight without a problem. The reason is the shape of the front bumper of the 997 underneath, even with the -20mm its better than what you would expect. Also a weak point of many cars is the area under the car that is in between the rear and front wheels (like an M3 for example), but the 911 have shorter wheelbase and that area clears the ground very well, I never had a problem there in places I have had with other cars.

Re: Finally, my -20mm 997S impressions and review

    Thanks Carlos ,

    LOL

I got visions of you on your hands and knees at the garage checking the clearance just to make sure before you proceed.

Very clever set up it sounds..

    Thanks very much..

    sport tips

    Carlos,
    Beautiful car...great review...

hey, do the sport exhaust tips stick out of the rear bumper? They look awesome!

    05 997S Artic Silver

    Re: sport tips

They kind of do stick out a little bit. They make the rear look even better

Re: Finally, my -20mm 997S impressions and review

    Carlos,

Why do you say the sundroof always ends up squeaking or rattling? Is this common for sunroofs in 911's?

Re: Finally, my -20mm 997S impressions and review

This might be a silly question, but im curious.. sport mode makes the car faster and better.. do most just have it on.. constantly.. or would this overwork the engine?

Re: Finally, my -20mm 997S impressions and review

Silver Bullet, don't know about the other 911's but it is comon in the 996's sunroof to develop rattles, my 996's had some too. (Interestingly the sunroof by the way is the only body part carried from the 996 to the 997).

Kozzoloz, it actually doens't make the car faster at all, just make the throttle initially more responsive/inmediate when you step down on it. It makes a noticeable difference in subjective "feel" of performance but not in actual objective performance. You can have it activated constantly, doesn't hurt the engine.

Re: Finally, my -20mm 997S impressions and review

    fantastic effort there Carlos

your writing is expressive and objective, yet with a hint of calculation! (no wonder you're a chiropractor on the side!)

    now about that stereo retrofit...

Re: Finally, my -20mm 997S impressions and review

Nice report Carlos. Can you tell me more about your radar detector. Where is the detector?

Re: Finally, my -20mm 997S impressions and review

    Great report Carlos!
Just had the chance to read it, sounds like a really great car!
    Once again, enjoy!

Re: Finally, my -20mm 997S impressions and review

Wow Carlos, impressive report and congrats on your new toy. It's really a beauty.

You should rethink your occupation. I can't think of any car magazine that couldn't use a journalist like you. Oh ,and the photos are simply outstanding, even though you can't be blamed for the landscape.

Re: Finally, my -20mm 997S impressions and review

Thanks a lot for the kind words

igzaklee, I will post pics and info as soon as its installed

vtrader, radar detectors are ilegal here so the radar detector is a remote type of detector were the antena is separated from the visual & acustic display box, that way the antena is installed behind the front bumper (for maximum unobstructed reception), so its completely hidden unless you take apart the bumper at a shop and search, and the little display box is hidden inside the cabin in the bottom of the pocket of the console which is very deep, if I get stopped I can place something on top creating a double bottom or just hide it with something.
It has already saved myu butt this weekend.

Next step is to find a way to intall laser jammers, front and back, in a way that the transponders are practicaly disguised from view. I working on it and have a pretty good idea, my stereo installer is going to help me out, will inform if it works out.

Re: Finally, my -20mm 997S impressions and review

thanks Carlos, please keep us updated on the radarstuff. what make is the one you installed? there are so many of them out there its best to know from (your) experience what really works...

    cheers
