    Still crazy after all these years...

    Actually, it is only a little over 2 years ago I bought my car but I am still crazy about it. I've been following this forum for a couple of months. I noticed that there is lots of buzz and excitement on the 997 side. I realize that the 997 is worth this excitement. I am on the list for the 997 Turbo myself (No 2 in the Midwest they tell me). I would however like to post a picture of my C4S. This car has been my daily driver since I bought it. She has been extremely easy to live with, only stayed home on days where the snow was piled higher than her ground clearance. Never a complaint, hiccup or glitch. Potholes the size of the Grand Canyon? No problem. At some point in the future we might say farewell when Turbo comes around. For now I grin like a fool every time I get behind the wheel. Maybe some other 996 (993 etc) owners will be inspired by this thread and blow some new life and enthusiasm into this portion of this wonderful forum. By the way, I am not sure if attaching this picture is going to work out. I will have to be on a best effort basis.

    yes, this forum seems to have died down ever since many got the 997.

    the 997 never really did it for me, i test drove the various models, took one home for 2 weeks. it felt soft. but to each his own

    i adore the 9 x 6 generation, i almost ended up with 3 in my 3 car garage. they are truely brilliant cars. history will remember this as the period where porsche turned around from almost going bankrupt.. however, they may have turned around too far and forgotten their true heritage. the cars are getting soft, theres an SUV, and an upcoming 4door sedan...

    I love the 996 generation, for it was the actual 911 model wjen I started my interest in porsche.

    I have said many times that my favourite porsche was and is the 996C4S....

    Just bought brand new 2004 C4S triple black, lots of 997's on the lot just didn't do it for me.

    How many miles did you accumulate on it, Men007?
    No RMS or intermediate shaft problems?

    I sincerily don't think there's a sort of fight between the 996 and 997 generation in this forum. Only the 997 is the newest model.I don't also think there are more 997 on streets than 996
    I'm a proud owner of a 997s and i love it as i really love the 4s, the most beautiful 996 model IMO.

    Flevio, it certainly wasn't my intention to start any sort of feud between 996 and 997 owners. I also agree with you that there doesn't seem to be any bad blood between these two groups that, lets face it, are probably not very different. I just wanted to celebrate my car that, so far, has served me incredibly well in a wide range of road, weather and driving conditions. Maverick, I drove the car for about 15,000 miles. This low number reflects my proximity to work rather than my eagerness to drive. I did take some longer road trips. A couple of weeks ago I participated in the Porsche driving experience -in Alabama- and I thought driving there would add to the experience. I drove back in one day, according to MapQuest about 670 miles. It took me less than 9 hours, including having to fill up a couple of times. When I pulled into my garage I had some bad BO going but I felt fine otherwise. Those seats are great! Anyway, the RMS-gods have been smiling on me so far. I might be jinxing it big-time with these posts though. Scott, my car started out with the standard "Turbo-Look II" wheels. I actually got two sets, one for winter with the factory recommended Pirelli tires and one for summer. When I went to swap wheels last spring some unscrupulous criminal had stolen my summer wheels. My Porsche dealer, who has a service storing these wheels for their customers, offered to replace the wheels immediately. For an additional couple of hundred bucks I upgraded to the GT3 wheels that look much better than my old set. Moogle, I know from some other thread (as well as your signature) that you also have a M3 that you probably use to get around on a day-to-day basis. Do you think your GT3 could be used for this purpose? I agree that the GT3 is an unbelievable car, I am not sure if it would be as easy and effortless to live with as my C4S. Joost, your comment made me think back of the time I first realized that the 911 was something else. I grew up in the Netherlands (near Utrecht) and I don't know if you are old enough to remember (I was born in the late sixties myself) but the highway patrol in the Netherlands used to drive around in Porsches (see picture). The idea was have cars so superior to anything else out there that speeders would immediately realize that 'the gig was up' the second it would show up in their rearview mirror. The scheme was a victim of cost-cutting a long time ago but even as a mere lad I knew the basic premise was sound. At some point there were guys out there whose job it was to drive around in a 911 at any speed there wanted, how does that compare to your job?

    Speaking of the Netherlands, I remember when I was there 3 to 4 years ago, seeing signs which indicate there were speed cameras on the freeways. If you exceeded a certain speed, you would be sent a speeding ticket. Is this correct?

    fantastic car. nice color, and i love the GT3 wheels.

    for me the 996 4S is still the most beautiful of the 911 variants out there. i'm not really getting used to the 997's (IMO retro) look. your 4S looks more modern than any 997 to me.
