    SL 55 AMG Performance Package available soon

    Customers soon (July 2003) will be able to order the SL55 AMG Performance Package on new car orders.
    The order code for dealers is 030.
    Retrofitting might be possible for older SL55 AMG models but right now it seems that you have to be a member of the german AMG Owner's Club to get a retrofit.

    The price is 11.020,00 EUR incl. 16% tax and includes the following modifications compared to the standard production SL55 AMG:

    • AMG Safety Car Style front bumper with larger air vents
    • Large Oil cooler
    • modified (sportier) setup of the SL 55 suspension, based on ABC
    • new brake disc with 380 mm diameter in the front including a new ESP setup
    • 19" AMG Style IV multi-piece rims (front 8,5 x 19 255 35 R19 Offset 30 and rear 9,5 x 19 285 30 R19 Offset 31)
    • Speed limit raised from 250 to 300 kph


    This offer is actually a bargain and should substantially improve the SL55's track performance as some of the above components of the Performance Package are derived from the SL55 AMG 2002 safety car.

    Caution: it seems that right now, this Performance Package is available to german customers only.
    More details and maybe pictures to come around end of June.

    I don't have a SL55, I have a E55.
    I get the 300 kph speed limit and the height/suspension optimization for my E55 end of this month.
    This is all AMG seems to offer for the E55.
    BTW: the guys working at AMG are very nice and helpful, I got an appointment sooner than expected (I asked for because my wife is pregnant) and I already spoke to 3 different people and they were not only friendly but also very determined to satisfy my wishes. I'm impressed.
    If things go well, I'll have some pleasant surprises when I get back my car and the best part is: I can wait for the mods and I'm even allowed to watch it to a certain point.

    I don't have a SL55, I have a E55.
    I get the 300 kph speed limit and the height/suspension optimization for my E55 end of this month.

    I bet your dealer is not too happy about that
    But more to the point, this is not possible for the rest of us as we don't live in Germany

    Why should my dealer not be happy about it?
    My dealer is an official factory rep, owned by the factory (not a privately owned dealership). It is actually the dealership where a lot of prototypes are brought to for testing.
    AMG offers certain mods for international owners too.
    But it depends on the country because some products are not certified for all countries.
    Best example: the speed limit raise to 300 kph (188 mph) is not certified for the US market.
    Probably one reason why the speedo on US bound E55 shows 160 mph top speed only (instead of the 200 mph on ROW models).

    To name a few of the possible mods:
    • 4-pipe (V8 Kompressor look) exhaust system for the CLK55 AMG
    • Nuerburgring sport suspension for the SLK32 AMG
    • Safety car steering wheel for the SLK32 AMG, C32 AMG and SL55 AMG
    • Height optimization for the SL55 AMG, E55 AMG (maybe for CL55 and S55 too)
    • 300 kph speed raise for SL55, E55, S55, CL55
    • 280 kph speed raise for SLK32 and CLK55
    • various 18'' and 19'' AMG rims

    I'm not sure I named all possible mods but it is interesting that most of them are available on request only and are not necessarily advertised.

    I hope to be able to find out more about possible mods as soon as I visit the AMG facility.

    Why should my dealer not be happy about it?
