    POWERKIT price and Please HELP!

    Dear Rennteamers,

    First, sorry for the long post.

    It's official, price in France for 381 hp powerkit X51 is 12,438.40 Euros!

    Now remember it comes with PSE, bearing in mind that PSE is about 1,750 Euros, that's still 10,700 Euros just for 26 hp.

    Delivery in October! If I say no, I have the car this summer.

    Rennteamers, RC, right now, I am torn and more than ever I need your advice.
    I've asked all my friends specialists from Merc. Ferrari and finally my friend JM who runs in GTFFSA Racing.
    They all told me NO!
    JM summed it up really well, here's what he said:

    Fanch, I know you well, I taught you everything you know about driving (true from a practice point of view, the rest is from Rennteam ) and let me tell you something, you're good but you're not that good and you are certainly NOT good enough to feel a 26 hp increase in your car.
    My advice is you will be MUCH better off spending 10700 Euros on driving courses, PDE and tuition rather than 26hp!

    Then my friend Tim from Ferrari told me, in terms of RESALE value, I will NEVER get my 12000 Euros back, at the most 2000 maybe 3000 Euros over a standard 997S, RC, is that true?
    How was the resale value of your 996 C4 mk1 with powerkit please compared to standard ones? Thanks.

    So there you go dear Rennteamers, you know the price, to me, it's way above what I expected, I can afford it, but 100% of the people I asked to so far, have told me, NO.

    And finally, I'm not sure about that but JM told me,
    After two years, once warranty has worn out, take it a Porsche center (I'm not giving the name for obvious reasons) but they're the P. center preparing ALL the GT3 for racing, and they will install for you on my recommandations, a new air filter (K&N), new exhaust manifold (just like the X51 kit without the new cylinder heads infact) and modify the DME and you will get your 25 hp for about 2000 Euros.
    The only thing is that by modify the DME, your car won't be EU4 emissions law compliant anymore, but to you care?
    RC, he told me that in terms of reliability, it's 100% fine, all the GT3 prepared there are all at least 390 hp (MK1 BTW so stock 360 hp) and they all work like a clock.

    Comments appreciated please! I need to give an answer to my dealer tomorrow or Monday morning latest in case I don't go for it, so that I can get the car early August.

    i would get the car in summer, say no to powerkit... although im not an expert or anything, that is just what i would do.

    Taking earlier delivery might let you avoid the recently announced 911 price increase too.

    I agree. The 997S with X51 costs close to what I expect the 997GT3 to cost and the GT3 is alot more car. I would save the money...

    I would also pass on the powerkit. They really need to knock off 3000 to 4000 Euros to make it worthwile.

    Spend the money on DE's

    I feel the same way about all the people who add superchargers etc. I certainly am not a good enough driver to warrant the expense and use the additional performance. Ger the car this summer and enjoy driving it at DE's when you have run it in.

    To be honest I would take the car before the summer without the powerkit.
    Firstly because your friends have told you the pure truth on the resale value of the car with the powerkit but also the potential aftermarket modification. Secondly you can always install in october-november the powerkit if you want (which would contradict the advise of JM.

    I agree with your friends advice; almost 13k is a lot of money for 26hp.
    Get the car this Summer and enjoy it or if you're really torn wait till the GT3 comes out since your order with the options are up there, you may wanna wait and get the 997 GT3.

    Your friend Tim from Norway has to agree
    12.000 euro is to much IMO for 26 ponies And his estimate of resale value sounds about right, unless you find a buyer who REALLY wants the X51. For most people I think the 355 hp in the Carrera S is more than enough.

    I can only imagine what the X51 will cost here in Norway...

    12.5k/10.7k for a mere 26 hp?

    Holy sh*t, I expected a lot (even more after the announced prices for the C4/S), but I never thought it would be that much.

    If you order the X51 together with all the other goodies you mentioned in another post like PCCB etc., you are really near F430 territory price-wise.

    Well, I'm expecting a F430, but my 997S with 355 hp is also so much fun. So my advice, stay with the standard 355 hp, because:

    - the 355 hp feel very, very good, can't imagine that the 26 extra horses will be so much of an improvement
    - you will never see the 10 extra grand when reselling the car
    - you will get your car earlier, enjoy it in summer!
    - if you really feel the need for some extra power, there are enough well known and reputable tuners who will be pleased to help you - already now - and that for less money
    - and last but not least: you will avoid the price increase due for autumn

    If it were me I'd would take a car this summer. But that's because I plan to get a 997 Turbo cab. I think it depends on how long you plan to hold the 997 S. If you're like me and switch cars often maybe you already have your eye on the 997TT. If so I would get into an S asap and put the money you would have spent on the power kit towards the Turbo. If you're not like me and plan to hold the S for a number of years not wanting a Turbo etc. then maybe you ougta wait and get the power kit. I wouldn't spend that kind of money for a power kit when you could have a Turbo in the near future.

    Well you never know what the future's made off!
    At the moment, I do plan to keep the car at least three years but you never know.
    FWIW, in two years, I will probably be sent back to Venezuela or maybe even Colombia or Golfe of Guinea in Africa, places where a 997 is not really recommended!
    Thanks for your advive, in that case I would indeed maybe sell it to get myself another car when I come back, but not a Turbo, or something else... GT2!

    Fanch, if you are ordering a coupe and considering the powerkit,pccb and stuff, wouldnt it cost LESS just to order a GT3 and then install the rear jump seats and belts from a 997?

    That is my personal plan to do, as I want a new 997 but
    dont want the M97 motor, but need the occaisional rear seats, and dont want the extra weight, cost and 4wd of a Turbo.

    well Fanch, I wouldnt do it, porsche is a bunch of idiots to charge these prices, but if they find people willing to buy that good for them..
    i owned a 996mk1 with power kit, bought it used 1 year old from porsche and even they could not charge much for it. just think that the new gt3 will be approx 105-110000, so you get dangerously close to that. this is money thrown out of the window imo...

    Interesting plan,
    But no, I am "ready" yet for a GT3, in the sense, that the 997S will be the PERFECT tool to learn how to drive properly, for me at least (PSM).
    And then, I still get all the gizmos, like Bose, Nav, Sunroof, etc.
    Maybe then, once I know how to drive, I'll get something more hardcore like a GT3.
    Although judging from Sergini's post, it looks like GT3 gets PSM too, and RC postes before that it gets PSM too! Weird!

    if it were me there is no doubt in my mind, take the car this summer w/o the powerkit. Its too much money for the 26HP extra on an already 355HP car were its not as noticeable, you will loose all that money when you turn it in, you can get those extra HP later on as you say much cheaper and it will get you exited once again on the car after you have onwed it for a while, and you will get the car sooner

    Porsche claims that first availibility will be End of September.
    If you talking about all the numbers, I have those already.
    They are indeed very convincing, but still I mean, my car shoots past 130 k Euros!

    Sadly, the factory Gizmos arent worth their asking price.

    PCM and Bose are a joke. You can get a complete Alpine, Kenwood or Pioneer system for lessw that has a beter picture, better sound, DVD player/TV/BlueTooth?Ipod etc.. for less money.

    Get the GT3!!!!!!!!! or a less option laden 997S coupe, or just get a Cab 997 with PCCB and be done with it!

    Don't let the Porsche optional equipment list hypnotize you into being a option ordering Zombie! Most of the stuff in there you won't care about once you press the gas pedal hard anyway. At resale time its just money lost down a rat
    hole that you could have spent on a boat, another car or
    some other possessions.

    From the readings of your experiences, I dont think a GT3 would be any problem for you to deal with on a daily basis, so why not get what you aspire to?? You dont really need a 997S mega euro "learners" car!!!!!

    Hi Fanch,
    It just seems wrong to me to have to pay that much. However it would be a nice feeling to know that you've got your car fully loaded as you want, straight out of the factory. I guess that if it would bother you daily that your car is not how you really wanted, then you should get the powerkit. 26hp isn't much but it's always nice to know you have it, even if you don't use it. If you don't get it it would be almost a protest vote against P regarding the price. Would you be happier doing this? Tough decision. FWIW I wouldn't get it.

    Ordering cars is supposed to be fun!!

    In NZ virtually all the money spent on options would be lost on resale... just makes the car easier to sell, (unless it's an odd colour combo)

    Same here Leong, Most of the money would be lost anyway on resale, maybe not PCCB, but that's about it I would guess.
    Then, you have the option that really help for a sustainable value such as Adaptative, Nav, Sunroof, etc. (in Europe at least).
    Truth is 26 hp would be nice, but in all honesty, it's mostly vanity.
    Like you wrote, it's nice to have it, but that's it. For me at least, for an experienced driver who COULD actually FEEL the 26 hp (RC! RC! ) then, it's a different story.

    BTW, THANKS to ALL of you, just got the dealer, and I've followe everyone's advice, will be delivered end of Summer!
    Enf of Summer bc factory closes in August it seems and Slate is a special color, oh well...

    1. don't compare the GT3 engine with the M97 engine, we don't have much experience yet with M97 reliability and durability. Right now I would recommend to STAY AWAY from any ECU or internal hardware mods. So if the Tuner has experience with the GT3, this doesn't say ANYTHING about the quality of a possible 997 Carrera S engine tuning.
    2. The powerkit increases 0-125 mph performance by around 1 second. But I'm also sure that the 26 HP are on the paper only, I would believe that the powerkit delivers more than 30+ HP in reality.
    3. Yes, resale value is not higher WITH the powerkit.
    4. I'm pretty sure that sooner or later, you regret NOT going for the powerkit. Not necessarily because of the performance increase but this is human nature.

    Pfffff ... now I'm totally confused
    12,500 euros for 26hp is really a sh*tload of money

    I was at Francorchamps today and was able to see the PSI 997S with 400HP. The sound was awesome and for 15,000 euro it gets delivered with adjusted springs, a new front bumper, rear diffusor and a new (oversized IMHO) rear wing. Will ask them how much the cost is for just the 45 extra horse power. I have made a few small videos and some nice shots that I will post after the weekend. Still 2 more days to go at Francorchamps

    Perhaps it would be better to have it without the X51 and add the extra 45HP from PSI-Motorsport (or Tech-Art) after 2 years.

    Hi Fanch, leave the Powerkit and get the car this summer! As the others have said, you will never get your money back on resale even though it has a LOT of options on it! I think you should just put on PSE though
