Re: CLS 55 AMG vs M5

I'd take the M5 over the CLS, 3 other models have the CLS's engine where as the M5 (M6 as well) are the only ones with that specific engine!

Re: CLS 55 AMG vs M5

M5 certainly got the edge dynamically,

Do prefer the CLS looks, reckon it would be easier car to live with day to day.

The great thing about the MB V8 is it's a proven engine, the high reving BMW M engines do tend to go pop as happened to a lot of the early E46 M3's.

Hope this new V10 is better, although didn't a couple go bang on the press launch in italy ?

To me, dynamics include motors not commonly blowing up and brakes not easily fading.....gee, does M5 still win over 55s?

I highly doubt the the new M5's V10's will pop, during testing they had the revv limiter off and they drove it around constantly on around 10000rpm, the limiter is set at 8250rpm on the production M5 just for durability and the life span of the engine. On the where abouts for the E46 M3 engines popping, well i haven't really heard any cases of those?!

I'd even take E55 over CLS55..... Personally, I don't fit very well in CLS-class, and I also can't get over its looking so I don't really understand why should I pay a even higher price than E55...... They are totally the same inside and out..... what a by-product....

does your cousin even run it in?!?! lol just kidding, but if that's the case, is that maybe why they only released a couple and it seems the next shipment is delayed?!?

I was talking about his M3. He is looking at the M5 but hasn't yet decided. But the M5 DID have problrms with the gearbox, read about it on the M5board.

Re: CLS 55 AMG vs M5

    Correction, the following models have the same engine as the CLS55: S55, CL55, E55 limo+stationwagen, SL55, G55 (MY05).

But I guess that only reinforces your argument.

I agree that the M5/M6 engine is much more desirable, just due to the mere fact it is a naturally aspirated engine achieving those specs. Secondly, to my experience, BMW has always produced engines which are technically superior and more smooth than the Merc engines. I'm generalizing here guys.

From a design point of view, I love the CLS. It's provocative and stylish at the same time. The M5 is more sporty and doesn't not command the same level of aura as the CLS.

It all depends on what your preferences are. From a performance point of view though, let there be no doubt... the M5 is the winner.
