Can a 997 coupe be used daily as a single car?

I don't have kids, just my wife.

I am driving a TT coupe now and it works well for the two of us. You can put the two back seats down and you get about 450 litres of boot space for the occasional time that you need it.

But is the 997 a car you can live with daily and driving up to 15k miles per year?

I don't have a second car, so this will be my only transport.

Re: Can a 997 coupe be used daily as a single car?

    Hi Niko,
Both of my 911s have been daily drivers. My goal was to put 100,000 miles a year on them but I never got that much time in the seat, unfortunately.

No matter how hard a day I ever had, it was made better by getting in the 911 for the drive home.

    D.

Re: Can a 997 coupe be used daily as a single car?

I used a 993 C2 as a single car for several years and did 20000km per year. No problems at all, even in winter (on winter tyres of course). So, a 997 with bigger/deeper boot and more comfortable suspension should be just perfect. However, if it is a non-S 997 I would recommend the PASM option for a daily driver. Hmm, and maybe the roof transport system might come in handy sometimes

Re: Can a 997 coupe be used daily as a single car?

    absolutely

Re: Can a 997 coupe be used daily as a single car?

No doubt. Nothing lifts the spirits for the drive home after a long day as starting up my 997S...

Re: Can a 997 coupe be used daily as a single car?

Couldnt agree more that at the start and end of the day, there is nothing like a 15 mile drive in the 997S. I actually look forward to it - helps of course if its across the golden gate bridge and into the great roads in Marin County

Works well if its a weekend away also. Recently did a 5 day tour around Big Sur, Carmel etc - no problem at all for me and the wife with quite a bit of luggage.

If you have a family though, Id say you need a "family" car as well. We have an SUV which works really well for us.

Re: Can a 997 coupe be used daily as a single car?

    Yes.

Re: Can a 997 coupe be used daily as a single car?

    no doubt!

Re: Can a 997 coupe be used daily as a single car?

of course! plus there are 2 TINY seats at the back should "kids" come along one day

Re: Can a 997 coupe be used daily as a single car?

I completely agree with Flashman and alin2. After a long day at work, it feels really great to get inside that 997S and take that 12 mile drive home. I am so use to driving the 997S everyday to work that I feel awkward driving my Acura TL (which is no slouch at 270HP). The TL was supposed to be my commuter car. Anyways, I gave the TL to my wife, because now, the TL feels like I'm driving a cadillac.

Re: Can a 997 coupe be used daily as a single car?

Agree, I use mine as a daily commute vehicle as well, about 20 miles a day. Look forward to getting up in the morning and puts a smile on my face after a long day at work. Just wish I had more time to get it out on the open road. Also have two kids (6 & 4) and they prefer it over mom's 'school bus' SUV. They are always wanting to go for a ride. 3.8 liter motor has such a soothing sound, my little one just falls right to sleep...its great.

Re: Can a 997 coupe be used daily as a single car?

I'd hate to have to do what you propose for one big reason: sometimes I (we) go places where parking it will require abig dose of Valium. Dings and [KNOCK ON WOOD...!] vandalism would be something to get used to.

Re: Can a 997 coupe be used daily as a single car?

Yup, I haul my kids (ages 8 and 5) and weekly groceries around in my 997 all the time with no problems.

Re: Can a 997 coupe be used daily as a single car?

No, it's against the laws of most countries. What kind of question is that?

Re: Can a 997 coupe be used daily as a single car?

I also moved from a TT Coupe to a 997CS and the answer is an emphatic yes. The seats in the back of the 997 are more useable than the TT, and even the boot is reasonably spacious considering it's at the front of the car. OK, you may occasionally miss the hatchback like space at the back of the TT, but this will be more than compensated by the drive.

You're not from the TT Forum are you?

Re: Can a 997 coupe be used daily as a single car?

I agree, I currently use my 997 as a daily driver and it always seems to brighten me up after a long day.

I would use it as a daily driver but I can't due to my customers. No problems at all using a 997 as a daily driver, living in a big city with lots of stop'n go traffic, I would probably prefer an auto tranny.

Re: Can a 997 coupe be used daily as a single car?

    Thanks for all the replies.

So driving this car daily is fine, which I was expecting. But as it will be my only car in my household, I occasionally will need a bit more luggage capacity that the one offered.

Also MMD's comments are what worry me. Parking the car in places like train stations or other car parks where vandalism is my main concern as well. When the car is in the home, I have a double garage to keep it safe at night, so no worries there.

Ed J...yes I am from the TT forum...guess who am I if you can?

Whenever I have to go somewhere questionable (ie., WalMart, Home Depot, etc.,) we take the family car. I mainly take my 997S back and forth to work, where I know that the people are not into vandalism. And other places where I have a good feeling that the probability is low for undersireables to have a spout of envy and do damage.

What is wrong with your customers? Do you need to transport them or are you worried that they may make comments about how much you charge them?

Re: Can a 997 coupe be used daily as a single car?

IMO, 997S is world's best $100K daily and wkend car for someone w/limited luggage space needs (nose works OK for limited groceries/dry cleaning carrying duties of most city-dwellers; I'd never put potential missles in the back of the interior...where allegedly addtl luggage space exists). If one has long daily commute, the small gas tank capacity and 14MPGish fuel economy make for annoyingly frequent gas station visits.

Me too. You don't have to drive the car hard to enjoy it. I use my car daily, and the kids fit in the back fine. You can always borrow a larger car when you need. There are many who will swap their SUV for your 997 for a few hours, least round here anyways...

Two golf bags fit in the back quite nicely.

The 997 is meant to be driven everyday.

    Regarding :"vandalism".

It's easy to talk yourself out of a nice car like the 997 citing crime etc. but I stopped doing that a long time ago beacuse you can talk yourself out of getting something nice forever.
'Life isn't a dress rehersal.',, 'You only go around once'. blah, blah, blah. 'Throw caution to the wind' and Just 'go for it' !

Re: Can a 997 coupe be used daily as a single car?

    Don't hesitate, just do it

I'm sure they do....but, personally, I don't like to have any objects in back of car....like to avoid any potential missles in emergency deceleration/crash situations....

Re: Can a 997 coupe be used daily as a single car?

Niko / V - I know who you are - I suggested you come here!

I had all the similar concerns you had - check out my thread on the TT Forum about a year ago, and I was talked into going for it. I've had my 997 CS about 4 months now and in 4k miles I have not had any trouble - I don't park it on the street, but I have left it in very dodgy areas without a problem. Obviously I could be tempting fate here, but as 997s are not too ostentatious (unlike Lambos or Ferraris for example) they don't attract so much of the low life attention as you might expect.

I say you should go for it (and congrats on the pay rise)

Re: Can a 997 coupe be used daily as a single car?

Mine is a daily driver and I LOVE it!!!

Re: Can a 997 coupe be used daily as a single car?

Once you get started using your 997 on a daily basis, you can't stop. I use to leave my 997 in my garage for use during the weekends but no more... I drive it every day.
