    Back in Black

Picture of my new ride. Thought I'd clean her up before showing to the Rennteam family.

    Re: Back in Black

Nice ride, watch out for those brakes when wet!

    Re: Back in Black

    VERY NICE
Could you post some more smaller in size?
What options did you get ? I see the PCCB's.

    Re: Back in Black

apologize about the size, didn't realize it would be that big.

    Options include:
    - full leather
    - adaptive sport seats
    - heated front seats
    - sport chrono package
    - navigation
    - bose upgrade

    Re: Back in Black

    Love the brakes.....

    Re: Back in Black

    Congrats, enjoy!!

I see the radar detector and its position. Mine is placed higher(closer to the mirror) because I think it's a little more effective there. Most people I see place it at dash level. I think that they believe it's less obvious or something.

Question. Why do people put it there and if it's to keep it out of sight a bit, is it really less obvious? Wouldn't it being more effective i.e.higher up, be more helpful?

    Re: Back in Black

    Congrats 911Fanatic, perfect color combo

    SrfCity,
The problem is that many cars nowadays have atermic (english?) windows so they have metal within the windshiled glass to reflect the heat of the sun. This decreases the efficiency of the detector because the metal content of the glass blocks the microwaves of the radar. But usually the automakers leave the area around the rearview mirror free of the metal so that drivers can attatch devices such as those automatic highway toll payers (english?) there and still work. So you can use that area for the radar detector so that efficiency is not reduced. But the effect of the windshiled on the detector depedns on the especific car, I don't know if Euro is different than US but in my 996 or my wife's BMW, detectors don't work at all placed on top of the dash, haven't tried next to the rearview mirror becuase its too visible here.

Are the PCCB brakes dangerous in wet weather conditions???

    Re: Back in Black

I placed it next to the dash mainly because I wanted to keep the power cord and detector out of the way as much as possible. Haven't thought about putting it higher. Seems to work where it is, but I'll do some checking to see where Escort recommends it should be placed.

not exactly "dangerous", it just doesn't perform nearly as well as in dry conditions. Just apply brakes lightly every now and then to keep them dry and it will be fine!

I'm not against a Cocoa Brown interior. But I think black would be near the BOTTOM of the list of colors that would look good with Cocoa Brown. Cocoa Brown is far more complimentary to shades of silver and white. Light colors.

    Re: Back in Black

Is that metallic black or not? Has that great shiny wet look which you dont usually see on a metallic finish.

    Re: Back in Black

Just standard black, looks really sharp when clean which is hard to maintain. Find myself washing at least once or twice a week. Probably wear the paint off in 2-3 years :-)

    Re: Back in Black

Well, looks like your doing a good job anyway! I have the same base black. Any problems with swirls? Ive bought the best of everything that I can (p21, microfiber pads etc) and I still get marks. Ive got porsche taking a look at it as my detailer mentioned that he thought that the clear coat may be too soft.

    Re: Back in Black

Only way to minimise marks is to wash and dry it in straight lines, a pain to begin with but gets easier. It still scratches but they are less noticable if they are "head on" to the viewer.
Flashman, if you have black, you wouldn't have a clear coat would you? That would come with Basalt.

    Re: Back in Black

Clear coat goes on top of the paint regardless - at least thats what the dealer and detailing shop described to me.

    Re: Back in Black

Flashman, no problems with swirls yet, but its still early. I always use a chamois to dry the car and I apply Meguiars Mirror Glaze #16 Professional Paste every couple of months or when water is not beading anymore. Find this wax easy to apply and remove and seems to eliminate swirls. Have used it for a number of years on different cars.

    Re: Back in Black

    Thanks for the feedback!
