    BiTurbo:

    Anglesey Coastal Track Shootout

    - Ferrari SF90 Stradale Assetto Fiorano - 1:10.0 (MPS Cup 2 R)

    - Caterham Seven 420 Cup - 1:12.3 (Avon ZZR)

    - Lamborghini Huracan STO - 1:12.7 (BS Potenza Race)

    - Porsche 992 GT3 (PDK) - 1:12.8 (MPS Cup 2)

    - Porsche 992 GT3 Touring (Manual) - 1:13.5 (PP-Zero Corsa)

    - Lotus Emira (3.5/V6) - 1:18.5 (GY-Eagle F1)

Interesting results.  With R tires, the GT3 would have been in 2nd place and the Manual Touring GT3 not far behind on equal tires (Corsas are definitely a bit slower than Cup2's - I've had both on my 992 GT3).

The aero is not much help on a small/slow circuit like Anglesey (and the Manual/PDK has never meant much difference to lap time, despite Porsche's marketing).

Just back from showing the GT3 T at the Cincinnati Concours:

    IMG_2997.jpeg

It only has 46 miles on the odometer, but I did take through "dead man's curve" on the trip home from the dealer.  The curve is posted at 30 MPH, but most Porsche drivers take it at 60-70 MPH.  I am quite familiar with this curve and have passed through it hundreds of times over the decades.

In all my previous GT3RS, GT2RS, there was always some playing around with the steering as the car "took a set" and subsequently delivered the required grip.  Any historic 911 pilot knows the feeling.  They all made it without too much drama, but there was always some slightly imperfect turn-in with which to deal.

The 992 GT3T (and I assume GT3) front suspension makes it feel like a front-engined car.  The car turns in with no initial hesitation or imprecision.  It's absolutely phenomenal.  I had heard it was "a little better" on turn-in, but I was not prepared to be blown away by the difference.  To me, the difference is not subtle.  It's major.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it. wink

    Re: 992 GT3

The 992 Cup2 are in reality probably no quicker than the Corsa. They have backed down the treadwear rating for the new N0 Cup2 and Connect Cup2 to TW240 to meet new regulations. I suspect this was partly why the set their reference laps at NR on Cup2R as those are still TW60?

However the N2 991.2 GT3RS Cup2 fit perfectly on the 992 GT3 and restore the level of grip with TW180 compound as well as providing a fractionally larger tyre patch at no noticeable cost of additional weight. They are also easier to set the track pressures (they are the same as the last 3 gens of Cup2 and like to be around 32/34 max hot).

I really like the new Corsas, but in my use the Cup2 was several tenths (between a quarter and half second) faster on 2 minute lap.  Not on same day, so not a perfect test.

I asked my dealer what would happen with GT4RS orders already on the books when they were shifted to 2023 model year production.  He said all those existing orders would be price protected to the original 2022 pricing.

My dealer said the same. My GTS 2022 is scheduled to be built in July, and it will be at the older price.

    Re: 992 GT3

Glad you guys have 2022 prices locked in.  There is a guy on Rennlist who is having to pay the extra money, despite an earlier order (I guess maybe the dealer is being a bit opportunistic).

I’ve just ordered a GTS coupe too (my first 911!). It’s not expected to be delivered until 12-18 months time. My initial spec is for agate grey but I’m seriously considering going paint to sample, viola metallic perhaps. I’ll sure I’ll be asking on here for help with the final spec closer to the time!

Porsche have updated their 911 configurator this week and you can now visualise the PTS colours. So my GTS order has now been updated to this:

    http://www.porsche-code.com/PPMDXJL9

I’m not sure whether to keep the callipers red or pay £500 to change them to black (which seems a farce given the base Carrera gets black callipers as standard!)

No, totally different.  GT4 box is from Audi.  GT3 box has higher torque limits (this is why all manual GT4 versions are artificially limited to 310 ft-lbs), spins in the opposite direction, and has No-Lift Upshift feature.

Thanks for that. Interesting. How about drive ratios?

    Re: 992 GT3

    Grant,

    I'm driving my 992 GT3 w/T around to gather break-in miles.

What jumps out at me is the very loud tire noise over older concrete road surfaces.  It makes it unpleasant to drive on those roads.  I don't remember that from earlier GT3RS, GT2RS that I have owned.

Is it something different in the sound transmission of 992s?  Perhaps it's due to the P Zero Corsa tires?  All my previous Porsche GT cars had (have 918) Michelin tires.

I'd like to "fix" this "feature" without going too far away from basics.

The ratios are quite a bit lower in GT3 than GT4, but because of the 9k redline instead of 7,800 or 8,000, the speeds in gears are not too dissimilar - still lower in GT3.

992 has less sound deadening - they were very aggressive with weight loss.  The 992 is quite a bit more focused for the track than 991, which puts the 992 Touring in a strange middle ground (imo, the Touring should have had a softer suspension with more insulation, but it is identical except for the wing).

I can confirm with the Cup 2’s the tire roar is still pretty bad.  Worse than my GT3RS.

    Re: 992 GT3

I currently run the Cup 2 on my 997 and I can confirm that they are slightly noisier compared to the old Cup's. I think this is not just 992 specific.

    Re: 992 GT3

    992 GT3 / Touring is louder inside then 991 .

As Grant said, the Touring 992 is exactly like the GT3, but for the wing.  That is why quite a few Touring buyers are disappointed once they get their car as they thought it would be a sharp ''confortable cruiser''.  It is not.

It does not make much sense to me. They should of improved insulation , and add softer suspensions and even back seats and then take it away from the GT3 programme. As of now, in the line, it is a GT3  with Touring pack option.

The 991 GT's did get softer, more accessible , many people using them only to cruise town, get coffee . That was never the purpose of the GT program.  With the 992 generation, Porsche is taking the GT's back to where they were meant to be. Track tools. Spirited driving tools. Not many compromises.   For more confort there is the Turbo S, the GTS.

    Re: 992 GT3

I've ran Turbo S and RS on Pirelli's just once and realized long time ago that Pirelli's in general are a much noisier Tire than the Michelin. I cannot compare latest generation against each-other but since then my choice is always in the favor of the Michelin even if the Pirelli's might last longer.
