    997 Turbo Design?

Again I had the chance to see an almost non-camouflaged 997 Turbo "somewhere".
    Here are my observations:
    1. not much left from the more 959-like design I saw many months ago, it was probably part of the camouflage
    2. the rear wing looked almost like on the 996 Turbo with a similar retracting/deploying mechanism.
    3. the front looks a bit more aggressive with a different light assembly (not the frontlights but the lights in the bumper)
    4. interior almost 997 C2/CS like but the gearbox lever looked strange...DSG?

There are a few more little details I cannot name because they would be able to track down WHAT car I saw and WHEN.

Overall, the 997 Turbo seems to be a nice evolution of the 996 Turbo but I somehow expected a more spectacular design.
I just hope the power is substantially higher, otherwise the 997 Turbo would be a disappointment.

Did what you see look like Carlos' photoshop with the light assembly in the middle of the air intakes as shown in the below link:

    Re: 997 Turbo Design?

    Christian..

Can you tell something about the air intakes behind the doors??

    thanks

    Re: 997 Turbo Design?

thanks RC, what a pity... I really hoped we'd get a kind of carrera gt version, as much as the 430 is a smaller version of the enzo.
    missed opportunity I'd say...

Is the 997 Turbo " only " getting the same " + 44 mm " wider body as seen in the official 997 C4S pics released today or a unique even wider rear fender set ? Most people can't tell a C2S from a C4S on these pics.
The Turbo should have meaner, nastier rear view - it's part of why it's an icon for 30 years !

    Re: 997 Turbo Design?

I actually think the lines of the 997C2 and C2S are classic-understated-not with too many additional curves without obvious functionality-this is obviously only personal preference. From the spyshots I've seen of the 997T, I think the air intakes look pretty cool, more substantive than those on the 996. I admit, however, that I will be disappointed if the power numbers on the 997T are only marginally elevated above those of the 996T. . . .

    Again,
    Look at Porsche's history,
The 996 Turbo only had 12 ridiculous hp more than then 993 Turbo and YET, everybody loved that car!
I personally think the 997 Turbo will be at least 470-480 hp and hopefully just over 510 hp with the powerkit.

    Re: 997 Turbo Design?

    Like this ?

    Re: 997 Turbo Design?

    RC,

what do you think about DSG? on the 997 turbo?
would this add to performace? or take away like the old tip? heavier and slower ???

    Re: 997 Turbo Design?

RC, Thanks for the update. Looks like the evolutionary design approach wins again - shame, but not surprising. From your previous posts and others, it looks like the power should be more than adequate for most drivers.

    Re: 997 Turbo Design?

    Fanch,

If your HP prog's. are accurate, assuming the other mechanicals are done nicely and the update isn't overbloated like a Merc ( ) with a power:weight ratio that stays flat, then 997T/TS buyers should be pleased :

    996T/TS HP's: 415/444
    997T/TS (Fanch's #'s) HP's: 470-480/510
That's a good 50-60-ish boost from 996-997. Hope the 997T/TS stay on a diet. And what about that (I think) onlyPorsche.net talk of 525 HP for the 997TS?

    RC,

Keep feeding us those tiny morsels of spy info.-like the old saying goes: "Give the wolf a taste, and keep him hungry. . . ! "

    Re: 997 Turbo Design?

    Attention Porsche!!!!!!!
If this 997 Turbo will be not faster than F430..........

    Re: 997 Turbo Design?

just wait a little more i think porsche will not let customers down on the turbo

    Re: 997 Turbo Design?

I think the most important question is when do the rest of us peons get to see it?

    Re: 997 Turbo Design?

Just out of wind Tunel testing . Let's see how quickly it gets around the internet .

More like as in; it was a joke, because if you look one page back, you will see the original, and if you followed Rennteam more closely. you would have known that it is a photoshop done by one of the members here

As if the 997 Turbo would be sitting on a US dealer showroom floor ( look at the license plate frame on the Cayenne in front of it ) !

    Re: 997 Turbo Design?

    Joost,MKW,

Being a little tough on the guy don't you think ? I thought it was real too. Matter of fact I don't know how that person got the picture to look like the real thing but he did
It sounds like you know everything about Rennteam. Maybe if you learn how to be more patient with people you might be called up to be an Editor or even a Moderator one day.

I just thought it was funny because Wildspeed's photoshop job has been posted a couple of times now on this board and every single time people seem to get suckered into thinking it was the real thing.

I'm sorry if I sounded rude though

Its all good, no big deal. I didn't know that picture was posted before. Not upset over here at anyone, we're all Porsche lovers right?

    Re: 997 Turbo Design?

Hope I didnt offend your 930S...
It's good to see some known faces (f6, right? ) over here too.
Stradale, I wasn't trying to be a smartass, that is why I explained it! NO bad intentions over here.

    Re: 997 Turbo Design?

You can rely on a couple of things from Porsche regarding the 997TT. First the styling will not be dramatically different the present 997 models. Second, they will make available a power kit to substantially increase the standard hp but at a very high cost.

I can visualize the Porsche executives rubbing their hands with glee when Ferrari came out with the 430 powered with 483-490hp. The 997 TT will have close to 460hp but a power kit will get it close to 500. All the Ferrari slayers will shell out an additional $20,000 to put their minds at ease that they have sufficient hp to take on the 430.

What is funny none of us will ever come close to using the hp we have on a regular basis. A spurt here and there and that is it unless the car is tracked.

I don't think the 997TT will need a power kit to compete w/ the 430.
But if your assumption is correct and a TT w/ power kit is equal in performance to a 430 then you just bought 430 performance in a TT for $25,000 less.

Actually, modern sports cars are so powerful and fast, that their top speeds and high speed 120-175 mph acceleration would never be approached at a club racer's level or club track configurations . These cars can only be , ironically , exercised to that extent at WOT on the 405 / I5 freeway at 3AM !

Boy, Nick, he's got you there. You fell head first into that one

It's so very difficult to escape the consequences of ordinary physics when attempting your verbal flights of fancy, No?
