    Cayenne warm-up question

    Good evening everyone,
    Every morning my driver starts up all the cars for about 10-15 minutes to warm them up before everyone goes to work/school. He usually does so at about 6 am, and i leave home at about 6:20.
    Is that approach good for the cayenne? should we continue this routine with my car or not..

    If it's on a cold winter's morning it's always good for the car. but i do that as well, it could never hurt

    From what i know 2-5 min is plenty good so 10-15 should be fine. One thing to keep in mind is that only the engine is being warmed up to operating temperature during this warm up. things like the transmission and such are not so just remember to drive fairly easy for the first 2-5 min.

    According to the manual, this should not be done. (Quote: "Do not warm up the engine stationary. Drive off immediately.")

    This is actually why I asked, in the manual does it say "do not warm up" or "you dont have to warm up"?
    Also i forgot to mention that i live in Saudi Arabia so the weather is quite warm (20-30 deg. celcius in mornings)..
    So I guess i'll just ask him to stop warming it up, and i'll just drive lightly for the first 2-5 minutes. Thanks everyone

    Warming up the car in a STANDSTILL situation is the most dumb thing one can do. It not only harms the environment but also may cause damage to the engine on a longterm run. It is NOT necessary, even if there are temperatures below zero outside.
    Just make sure the driver doesn't revv too high when the engine is cold, this isn't good either. As soon as the oil temp gauge is near to 90*C, he's free to go...

    Many years ago, warming up cars was necessary but now with modern fuel injection systems, etc., this is NOT necessary, it doesn't make ANY sense at all.

    With one exception though: I remember when working in the diplomatic service that one driver of a citizen of a certain country warmed up his engine all the time before driving off from the embassy/diplomatic club.
    I asked him why and he told me that this is because of security, the engine of the bulletproof(!) car has to be warm to be able to cope for security risks met on the street. This makes sense to me, a cold engine may not be a good thing to have when you have to escape from a dangerous situation. Just wanted to mention this, just in case...

    You don't?!? I've learned from my dad when I was small, to always let the engine warm up before driving off. But like you said this was for cars a couple decades ago. Well, guess I've learned something new today, tnx RC

    RC, in my opinion, you are a little bit overexaggerating on this one... ...everything is relative...better listen BETTER to the car in various conditions situations...

    Seriously: it isn't necessary to warm up engines before you drive off, on the contrary. This is why most car manufacturers also mention it in the car manual.
    It is a thing of the past...

    I forgot to mention another "sin": fuel additives. A lot of people add fuel additives to the fuel. Unless someone is living in Afghanistan, this usually isn't necessary.
    Brand name fuels have already additives which do a pretty good job, adding something extra may even render those additives worthless, resulting in excessive engine wear, etc. I used octane boosters, etc. myself when working in Eastern Europe many many years ago. But nowadays it really isn't necessary in most countries and may even harm your engine. Even worse: adding OIL additives, some of the "wonder" stuff advertised in some car magazines, on TV, etc. Modern full synthetic oils have everything you need for a high performance car and if mixing oils isn't a good thing to do, you can imagine what happens if you add a so called "additive" or oil "enhancer". Just mentioned it for the book.
