When there is smoke there is fire is the old saying.

I supposed Mercedes isn't too happy about the development, if indeed VAG did purchased McLaren, then their engine secrets could be glimpsed by VAG, even when there will be new engine formula soon.

I also don't see the point of VAG acquiring the road car side of business. Do they have anything to gain? Everything McLaren made has been based on the original MP4-12C platform, which is 10 years old now. While they are still unbelievably good, the days of non-hybrids are numbered. Their incoming hybrid, Artura is not going to be enough to sustain their business.

Many argued that their cars are on 'different' platforms, well no. Everything starts off with the basic 12C tub, and modified as needed to build other stuff onto it. They haven't had a 'all new' grounds up' tub yet.

Aston Martin was another car maker in trouble as they stuck with the same platform for a long time, maybe too long. Their VH platform was very good and flexible, but time moves on, constantly.
