I was reading something about fuels a little while back.  It mentioned that the popularity of petrol-driven passenger cars was good for other petroleum products as the refining process produces a set of products.

i.e. if we assume there will continue to be demand for things like diesel for trucks and farm vehicles, low grade fuel for ships, avgas for aeroplanes, etc, then automotive-grade petroleum would continue to be produced as a part of this process.
