I'm sorry to hear that.
Never lend a car, not even to your best friend because you never know. Do you lend your wife ? I bet not. Same should apply to your cars. At least this is my friendship policy for the past years and it works fine, even if some friends don't always understand.
Regarding 4WD/PSM, you know my point of view. It helps to be fast if you're an experienced driver and might save you from little driving errors. But it isn't a 100% working safety cushion. And don't forget: even if a high quality parachute fails to open from time to time. One reason why there is always a backup parachute. Unfortunately there is no backup 4WD/PSM on the 911.
