I would think that's at least a few years off.  Why would they want/need Aston Martin right now?  Is a right size mess.

Cause right now Aston is worth less than 1/10th of what it was not 2 years ago. You are paying pennies on the dollar.

It's already using AMG engines and Mercedes parts inside, and Mercedes don't really have a prestige brand in it's portfolio.

The only other choice would be McLaren but they already invested in Aston first.

The game of music chair has started, and McLaren really needs to find a chair soon.

If you take full ownership control then you assume all the debt & obligations so Aston is still far from cheap.

I would not be surprised is McLaren and BMW start eyeing each other if the situation at McLaren deteriorates further.  If not the plan is to wait it out and do an IPO in 3 years.

Mercedes doesn't have to do an outright buyout, no need yet. Stroll actually did the hardwork already injecting cash into the company and 're-organizing'. Mercedes could just as well stand behind Stroll in the shadow.

BMW already have Rolls Royce, they don't need another halo brand, McLaren do not fit in at all, nothing on a BMW corporate product can be integrated into any McLaren, and nothing McLaren provide will fit BMW either.

Japanese won't buy them, they never buy stuff anyways. The French are broke. That leaves the Chinese as the only logical destination. They have the money, and Indians already owned JLR. But whether the Chinese actually want McLaren is another story.

There eis a bit of history with BMW though.  It is a BMW V12 in the back of the McLaren F1.  It would make some since to share next generation engine tech across both brands.
