While it’s great that nobody was injured, I think maybe the better outcome for the owner was for the car to completely burn rather than to be repaired.

Not really because I doubt McLaren would build him a new one... Look at what happened to Alejandro.

He didn't get a new car, but I believe he had all of his purchase price returned (less deductible), although over MSRP.

What is the value of a car with a carbon tub that was involved in a fire and repaired?  What kind of huge discount would you demand, rather than buying an example with no issues?
