It probably answers most of your (remaining?) questions.

No, the Navigation and Phone are NOT mandatory but the PCM system is (the TFT screen with the keypad and the nice little buttons ). Navigation and Phone are optional, you have to pay for it, same applies to the BOSE sound system and the CD-changer and of course the phone handpiece is also extra.

From my own experience, the phone and navigation work pretty well and no software bugs either so far.
Why didn't you like the phone and navigation on your M3?
