I agree it's odd, but it can happen. Sometimes, one cannot afford to wait just because of key component is delayed. It might look bad, but it looks better than holding back the entire deal, or releasing a non-working product just to make the deadline.

I'll give you two recent examples:

Was Porsche right to introduce the 987S on time, but with the 3.2L engine from the 986S? or should they have delayed the introduction of the 987 until the 3.4L engine was ready?

Was Porsche right to introduce the 997 Turbo on time, but with a slushbox? or should they have delayed the introduction of the 997 Turbo until DSG was ready?
