It's funny guys, the first 6 months of my M3 I hated it. Didn't gel with it, too twitchy, too much torque etc and I hardly used it. Then I used the car more and took a 2 day driving school in M3/M4, and learn how to use the extremely sharp front end to my advantage instead of thinking it's too twitchy. The more I used it around the mountains the more I like the car. I even like the sound now, so much so that I went out and bought a M4 as well so that both my wife and I can have a M3/M4 and got rid of her 5 series. I have now read many reviews where the reviewers love it (like Chris Harris), and others like Steve Suttcliff who hates the twitchy rear end. But after 15 months with one, I can now genuinely say that I love the M3/M4 and BMW M is far from dead! The M3/M4 sure is a car that divides opinion.
