I had a helmet as a kid because I crashed all the time and had many concussions. (explains a lot,eh?).  Since 16 or so I have only skied without protective gear - and jeans at that - because I never fall and never take big risks.  I ski like some people walk or jog, not like some people race cars.  I would say it depends on your skill level and the risks you take.  Mind you I still ski the back bowls and moguls etc. - just no super fast slopes or where novices like to run into others.  I hate those fools on snow boards who spend all day on their asses and think it is no big deal to run into others.  I don't even touch others skies while standing in lift lines.

I am not in favor of helmet laws - just commons sense please.  My heart goes out to the Schumacher family.  I always would have wished for a life like his - not so much anymore.  We are all lucky to have good health if we have it!  Hug your family one extra time tonight!
