GT3 RS debut before the GT3 is even available?

Take a look at the historic precedents, for example...

  • The Porsche 997 GT3 was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show In March 2006...   burnout.gif
  • The Porsche 997 GT3 RS was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in September 2006... driving.gif

The order book for the 991 GT3 is in good shape. The target customer base are certainly ready for the 991 GT3 RS to be announced and Porsche dealers are understandably keen to start converting letters of intent into customer deposits.

It will also be good to have an exciting "surprise" unveiling for the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Porsche 911.

You will have noticed that the product cycle at Porsche has been fine-tuned. Feedback from existing Porsche customers suggested that high-end models should be announced earlier in the product lifecycle. For example, the 991 Turbo S was announced on the same day as the 991 Turbo, rather than towards the end of the model cycle.

As an aside, over at Audi, you might have also noticed that the policy to only build a single RS model at any point in time is no longer the case.

Porsche are also looking to expand the Cayman range with a Cayman GTS expected to be unveiled (along with the new Macan) at the LA Auto Show in November 2013...
