There is a reason why BMW recommends such a long break-in period. I would definetely stick to the recommendations until you reach 2000 km. After that, I would raise rpm/throttle/etc. slowly but steadily. I know that some people barely make 5000 km in a year but it shouldn't be too difficult to get 2000 km on your car. Just drive drive drive...

The full 5000 km break-in would  be great but I doubt that somebody actually really does it.
