Personally I would like Lotus to take the Elise back to its roots, e.g. make it lighter (approx 800 kg) instead of increasing the power and creature comforts. But this is more difficult than it sounds, going back to 800 kg with today's standards (also security constraints) will make the development and hence the sale price expensive.

 

I was told that the Mk.1 Elise used several Aluminium parts that were replaced by siblings in steel on the Mk.2 version, primarily for economical reasons. I do believe that the Elise could get back to 800 kg with the appropriate materials and engineering, especially if engine power will be constrained.

Production and replacement costs will be significantly higher though and Lotus´ cars are not exactly cheap already. Smiley
