    System Fault Visit Workshop

I bought a used 2005 911(997). So far so good... my dream car.
Anyway, I am getting a "System Fault visit workshops" message on my dash console.
Does anyone know what this means?
Will this be expensive to fix? If so, how much?

The only thing I did was wash and wax the car.

    Thanks!

    Re: System Fault Visit Workshop

I guess it could be a multitude of things, electrical, mechanical (easier to diagnose). The only advice I can give you is do exactly what it says; take it to the dealer, you never know it could be quite insignificant. They will run diagnostics on the car and hopefully identify the issue. If all is fine, it might be a good opportunity to get that extended warranty. Good luck.

    Re: System Fault Visit Workshop

Awwwww geeeeeez... . At the beginning (2005) a few guys washedr their cars and the troubles began.

It seemed water got past weatherstrip and into the electronics.

Photo below shows areas where water got in.

Hopefully they've figured it out completely. At first there were multiple trips to dealer svc and multiple "module" replacement. Was verrrrry annoying if I remember correctly.

You have no choice but to get to dealer and let them know they SHOULD know all about this weatherstrip problem, via TSB, and how to fix it.

If this is the cause (sounds likely with early car) hopefully it won't be as big a PITA for you as it was in the beginning.

Sorry..., I got my fingers crosssed for you.

    Re: System Fault Visit Workshop

Also, there MAY have been a recall to fix this problem. Make sure you tell them you're aware and make them convince you there was no recall if they claim that is the case.

If there WERE a recall it should cost you nothing (?).

There is a static electricity issue concerning the front end area (especially around the head lights) of early build 997s.

I detailed my 2005 a few months ago and got the same eror message afterwards. It seems the front control unit or trunk actuator solenoid is 'sensitive' to static electrcity. Do a search on this problem and you'll find more info.

Long story short . . . . the dealer replaced the trunk actuator and reset the control unit. I don't think there was a recall but if your car is still under warranty you'll be good to go.

Keep us appraised on the fix.

    Good Luck!

    Re: System Fault Visit Workshop

Oh, that static electric polish-the-headlights-and-get-system-fault problem! I remember that too. Crazy!

    Re: System Fault Visit Workshop

Thank you all for your advise.
    I really appreciate it!

You know... I did wax the car and polished the headlights.
Maybe it was caused by that static electricity that AP997S mentioned. If so, that's annoying. Does that mean I can't wash and wax my car anymore? If they replace the module, will this allow me to wax my car in the future?

Thanks MMD for the picutre! I'll mentione that too to the service advisor.

Thank God the car is Porsche certified!

I have an appointment on Monday! I'll keep you all updated.

    Thanks again!!!

    Re: System Fault Visit Workshop

MMD - What did you mean by "TSB" and "PITA"?

I apologize, I'm new to this forum.

    Thanks!

    Re: System Fault Visit Workshop

    TSB = Technical Service Bulletin
PITA = Pain in the ass

    Re: System Fault Visit Workshop

    raph,

The dealer will replace a module. This will most likely solve the problem. I have a 2005 and have never seen the problem, but then again, I never polish the healights.

    Re: System Fault Visit Workshop

    UPDATE!!!

Took my car in and the dealer fixed everything!

So far so good! Thanks everyone!!!

Just to close the thread properly what exactly did the dealer do?

    What parts were replaced?

All that info should be on your receipt or work order.

    Thanks!

    Re: System Fault Visit Workshop

AP997S - apologies for the delay.

    Message: "System Fault..."
    Cause: Faulty Module
    -Cleared Fault Memory
-Replaced Front Control Unit (Dummy Fuse)

It's been a little over 2 months and so far so good!

    Re: System Fault Visit Workshop

    Thanks . . . . Information is 'Power'!
